As a therapist, I use a variety of therapeutic models including CBT, Solutions Focused therapy, ACT, grief and trauma therapy to help clients recognize that they are not defined by their mental health challenges and together we can find solutions to live a more fulfilling and happier life regardless of their circumstances.
Currently offering pro-bono counselling. Everyone has challenges in their life and we don't hesitate to accept assistance in almost every area except for mental health. We are quick to accept a marketing lead from a business associate, money management advice from a financial advisor or parenting advice from a friend. But when we are experiencing anxiety, depression or self esteem questions we view the need for help as a weakness. Perhaps the reason is that we fear being labeled.

The beliefs we hold about ourselves and those around us can make life and relationships challenging. They become the lens through which we see everything & everyone, creating unrealistic expectations that leave us feeling sad, disappointed, & unworthy. Using evidence-based practices, therapy challenges those unhelpful thoughts and deep-rooted beliefs, creating space for acceptance and self-compassion. If you are challenged by anxious and depressive thoughts, a negative self-image or even grief, take a step towards therapy and invest in your mental wellness. Currently accepting Clients with daytime availability only. Thank you

I believe that our relationship to our thoughts, feelings, and body dictates much of our experience, and that it is through full acceptance of oneself that one can begin to change.
Therapy is an act of consciousness. Through awareness, curiosity and a sense of play, we can explore and open up new ways of being. I’m interested in the human experience and the stories we tell to make sense of it. Informed by my literature studies, I dive into observing all angles of a story, finding patterns in behaviour, and exploring points of view. Understanding that you’re the expert of your story, I offer my queer, existentially-informed perspective to support you in aligning with your most authentic self.

The treatment approach that is most effective for OCD is Exposure and Response Prevention, ACT and Cognitive Restructuring.
Do you suffer from unwanted OCD thoughts and anxiety? Do you worry about bad things happening to you or those you love? Maybe you are having thoughts that you have harmed someone or may harm someone in the future. Perhaps you fear that you will become contaminated or that you will be responsible for a tragedy. Do you wash your hands excessively or check things like door locks or the stove? Or do you avoid things like knives, public restrooms, or anything that might trigger your fearful thoughts? Do you find that your OCD is interfering with your relationships?

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
