Each one of us has a need to be deeply heard. To be listened to in a space that is empathic, accepting and without judgment can be a life-changing experience. As a therapist, compassion and acceptance are foundational values for my work. You come with your own unique life story, influenced by your family of origin, adult relationships and experiences. By reflection and exploration, I help facilitate a therapeutic space which allows you to explore the deeper parts of your self and discover new possibilities. I believe each person has the innate wisdom to discover how they can flourish and thrive again.

As your therapist I believe you are the only expert about yourself and your life. I view therapy as a co-active partnership where the individual and the therapist work together towards the goals of the client. This does not mean that I cannot provide guidance and suggestions about what might be helpful. Therapy is ultimately about your individual needs and what you hope to achieve. I see my role as supporting you in exploring different ways of coping and achieving your potential.

Being anxious, sad, overwhelmed or having no hope can have a negative impact on your physical and mental health. Seeking help might not be easy; and opening up and revealing yourself in therapy can be intimidating. This is why most people who suffer mentally and emotionally, do not seek help, often being forced to cope in unhealthy ways to seek temporary relief. But you are here because you are seeking help, congratulations for taking your first step towards healing!

Parenting can be hard. Social media, gaming, peer dynamics, school and mental health diagnoses impact children and teens which can lead to challenging behaviours that are difficult for parents to understand and respond to. At the same time, today's parents are dealing with their own life stressors (work, finances, relationships and mental health concerns) that can further challenge positive family functioning. Thriving Families Counselling provides support to parents and their children in achieving personal wellness goals and helps to foster positive change and understanding in the family as a whole.

"I just can't get over it!" Those words can mean you're struggling with trauma. The trauma might be from abuse, neglect, or having your life endangered. You might have tried other therapy, and it hasn't worked the way you had hoped. It's possible to change the way your past affects you.

Life is beautiful, in part because of its challenges which can help us to grow and learn more about ourselves. There are times when we can feel overwhelmed and experience increased stress, anxiety, low mood or various other things that have us feeling less like ourselves. Simply put, those are all signs that you have done the best that you can with the skills and supports that you have to navigate this part of your life. My hope in this role is to support each individual to realign with their strengths and the development of the skills needed to thrive during these seasons.

I am happy to work with an extensive range of clients and organize my practice around providing Client-Centred Therapy grounded in empirically-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Additionally, I have lived experience as a first responder and am passionate about addressing the unique challenges associated with fulfilling such roles. In my experience working with people over the last 10 years, I've found that often their challenges are best addressed first and foremost by being heard; this act of listening is a gift that unlocks the resources hidden within.

I'm a registered social worker that provides evidence-based therapy for individuals and couples. Perhaps you are struggling with feelings of anxiety and depression or you are unhappy in your relationship. You might be avoiding difficult situations or finding ways to escape from how you are feeling. As a couple, you might be feeling stuck. Your conversations or arguments go in circles and never feel resolved. It's become difficult to communicate and you feel disconnected from each other.

How can I find a therapist in Kitchener?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $300 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
