I work primarily with adults often finding myself with clients experiencing one or more of the following: stress, anxiety, relationship difficulties, significant life changes, sleep disturbance, trauma, a history of being sexually violated or those seeking a deeper purpose. Many clients often have a spiritual nature and/or curiosity regarding their life, purpose, meaning and healing journey. I use a psycho-somatic approach often integrating a combination of Havening, Focusing, EMDR, Inner Child, Hypnosis, talk therapy and psychoeducation. These modalities offer a wide range of approaches to assist clients with change.

Struggling to manage work, parenting and family relationships can be difficult. What is helpful is taking the steps to recognize you need support, even though it is not an easy task to do so. Helping people to reach that goal has always been my passion. Recognizing and moving forward towards changing and breaking patterns of behaviour and / boundaries in relationships, may be what you need to alter your current path.

My philosophy of practice is centered around several guiding principles: holistic practice, collaboration, and flexible modalities of practice. Over the 15+ years I serviced various clients across a multitude of issues. My ideal client is someone who has a desire to move forward, may not know how but willing to do the work require to facilitate powerful change. They are willing to try various strategies until they find the one that works for their circumstances and is willing to be vulnerable together in order to get to the root cause of the issue.

Developing self-awareness — what’s important to you, your unique strengths and resources, and the ways in which you may hold yourself back — is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. When faced with life’s inevitable challenges, self-awareness is like a compass, helping you find your true north and live your best, most authentic life. My role is to create a safe space in which we identify your unique strengths, explore how you limit yourself, and help you to thrive. I ask curious, thoughtful questions to help you make sense of your challenges and find a way forward that is consistent with your values and your true self.

Are you worried about social media and the impact it's having on your child? Do you feel less connected as a result? Is your young adult struggling with addiction, sadness or trauma? Are you confused with how the school system can provide the help you need? Being a young person today is sometimes comparable to being in a canoe without a paddle. People often feel hopeless and are filled with worries about uncertainties they face.

As a woman and a second-generation Canadian, I too have often found it overwhelming and confusing to keep up with the different roles that are expected of us. It is not unusual to have a hard time saying "no", and put yourself and your needs last even when you might not want to. It is common to question your sense of self and be curious about a life that feels more true to yourself and that aligns more with your values. Even reaching out for professional support can feel uncomfortable and unfamiliar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
