I offer Brainspotting, EMDR, and EFT to help you achieve real change.
The impact of painful past experiences, relationship problems, and never feeling "good enough" are interfering with your life. You feel broken and like you have to constantly wear a mask so others don’t see you’re struggling. Disconnection and hurt are your norm in many of your relationships. You’ve read self-help books and been to therapy before, but nothing has actually led to the growth and change you’re looking for in your life and relationships. You have a sense that you can have a life with more confidence, stability, and fulfilling relationships, and are thinking it’s time you get some support.

Treatment goals may be supported using somatic processing, EMDR, CBT, and interpersonal process.
We all experience times in our life when additional support could be helpful. Unfortunately, during these times seeking support can feel overwhelming and vulnerable. I realize it can take a great deal of courage and trust to reach out. As a therapist, I have deep respect for the people that I work with and it’s important to me that I understand my clients experiences and work collaboratively with them to support their goals. My approach is strength-based, trauma-informed, and rooted within a multicultural/feminist framework that attends to context, reinforces resilience, and focuses on empowerment.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an approach effective in resolving trauma or breaking through any conditioned beliefs developed in the past that negatively influence your current life.
Knowing that it is usually an experience of pain or frustration that prompts people to seek counseling, my goal is to provide a safe place for you to effectively move through it. Often that pain comes from unmet needs, harmful experiences, or coping systems that no longer serve you. I want to work with you, to offer reflection, understanding, information, and new windows to help you experience relief and a sense of well being. Approaches include insight oriented talk therapy, mindfulness, EMDR, and art therapy and are chosen on what would be most appropriate to your individual goals.

Did you know that EMDR works for children and teens?.
Struggles at home, work, school, or church can lead to frustration and doubt. There are ways that you can move from surviving through life to really have peace with life. People find that the increased frustration effects their life in ways of lost focus, broken relationships, discomfort in crowds, and loss of confidence to name a few. These all lead to the anxiety which makes one believe there is no escape. Do you find that you continue to feeling as if nothing will change? Do you find that many years of therapy have led to no results?

We can approach this with traditional talk therapy, or by using the trauma-focused therapy EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), or a combination of both.
Are you frustrated that you can't "snap out of it" when you feel depressed, anxious, or making the same mistakes over and over again? Maybe you have felt stuck for a long time, wondering what's wrong with you that you can't find your way out. But all of us of us get lost in our suffering sometimes, because when you're in the middle of it, it's hard to see the way through. I offer the outside perspective and collaboration you need to get unstuck, to help you find your way back to a full and satisfying life.

All sessions are currently online currently. With so many adjustments it is unclear what my future practice will be in terms of online/in-person. Certified in one of today's most effective integrative counseling methods, Hakomi Therapy and EMDR, I work with you to heal from past experiences. I provide caring, deep counseling for individuals. We work with patterns and core beliefs in a way that opens them up or allows them to fall away. One client described my technique as "the most direct route to problems she had ever seen." Together we'll process grief and heavy realities to generate possibility and fullness in your life.

When a different approach is the better fit to help clients meet their goals, I draw from CBT, CPT, EMDR, & other modalities.
Do any of these comments sound familiar? “You’re too emotional.” “You’re so dramatic.” “Why can’t you just let it go?” “You’re so sensitive!” Do you struggle to cope without going to extremes? Too many people haven’t been taught how to cope with the struggles of life in healthy, effective ways and instead find any possible way to feel better, as quickly as possible. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in particular can help you learn these vital skills to begin building the life you choose. If you’re tired of being stuck in suffering and emotional pain, I’d like to help you find your way through. -Adult clients only at this time.-

I recently added training in EMDR.
If you need to re-connect, re-ignite, or even resurrect your marriage, then come see me. Perhaps as an individual, you feel stuck in a certain emotional state such as frustration, anxiety or depression, and you're tired of it. Maybe your not making adjustments to life after a recent loss. Such challenges can lead to isolation, helplessness, and feeling disconnected from those you used to be close to. As humans we co-regulate, meaning we need another person (therapist) to help us sort out our chaos. In the process of "sorting out" and gaining new skill sets ( one's not learned in childhood) a new hope and joy can emerge.

Using Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and EMDR, I help individuals expand their repertoire of coping skills, work through stuck points, and find grounding and clarity within their personal values.
I currently have openings for In-Person sessions. Clients often come to me with issues regarding perfectionism, challenges with emotionally immature family members/parents, attachment, grief and loss, existential concerns, and belonging. My approach is direct, caring, and humanistic. My work with clients reflects values of collaboration, transparency, and trust. Therapy is an investment in your growth and personal development, the foundations of which are a solid relationship between the therapist and client. As a clinical social worker, an understanding of the systemic nature of mental health concerns is a key part of my practice.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
