Relationships are the purpose and joy of life. I am passionate and dedicated to helping my clients create healthy relationships with themselves and others. I provide individual psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults, as well as couples' therapy and family therapy. I help my clients discover destructive thoughts, behaviors, and patterns, and implement effective tools that will catalyze healing and empowerment. These strategies enable confident navigation of complicated and dynamic relationships, which leads to a more joyful and fulfilling life.

I work with young adults, families, and couples helping them to shed light on themselves and the systems of which they are a part. I have worked predominately with clients experiencing symptoms of PTSD, depression, anxiety, bipolar, addictive disorders, and personality disorders. I have a background in wilderness therapy and experiential treatment and love to introduce creative, alternative modes of expression to my clients, including yoga movement, narrative, and outdoor based therapies (walk and talk). By the end of our first session, most of my clients feel relieved and hopeful for their next steps.

I was born and raised in Las Vegas but relocated to Utah with my wife in 2014. I have spent most of my career as a business consultant and enjoy helping others simplify complex issues. After my own struggles, I realized that these skills could easily be transferred to individuals who had challenges in their personal lives. I am drawn to working with others who are overwhelmed by all the demands life places on them.

Life is hard. Three simple words that are at the root of why people seek out therapists. I believe that the vast majority of people are doing the best they can in life. When our thoughts, words and actions aren’t in sync with our values or expectations of ourselves, that can lead to depression, anxiety and other distressing emotions. Sometimes we find ourselves in deep distress due to the actions of others. I find great joy in helping others sort through that complex tangle of emotions, thoughts and behaviors in order to come to a resolution–to figure out how to move forward in a manner that brings them peace.

Therapy is: Creating desired changes which improve our lives. My goal is to help identify the obstacles which are impeding your happiness and assist you in making changes that will bring a greater level of joy and fulfillment to your life. People enjoy my warm, easy going, supportive nature as they work through life's struggles. Clients progress as they overcome fears, anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, addictions, relationship problems, old/new emotional wounds. Success in treatment comes as the barriers to my client's "desired life" fall, one by one, and they become independently prepared for new functioning in life.

James Davis, CMHC has a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and Human development. He has experience with, anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, relationships, parenting, mental illness, domestic violence, sexual assault, substance abuse, addiction, adjustment disorders, suicidal ideation, and crisis.

I support the development of each individual's inner guidance and direction. My years of experience working with substance and behavior addictions have created a strong foundation which supports lasting healthy recovery. I accomplish this by utilizing my training in EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy & Gottman's Sound Relationship House. I have found great success with those who have otherwise lost hope. As an experienced child and family therapist, I understand how difficult it can be to find resources and help for children and teens who are suffering from emotional and behavioral issues including: low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, forming and maintaining healthy relationships, past trauma and abuse, and engaging in unhealthy behaviors. I specialize in working children ages 3+ who are experiencing difficulty in their functioning and ability to navigate life's challenges and relationships. I have helped many through addictions of pornography and other substances. I have worked with teenagers and families for well over 10 years. I and was trained foundationally in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy from the Linehan Institute at the Mclean Hospital in Boston, MA, as well as was trained in EMDR therapy. I have been trained in the Gottman approach for couples counseling and enjoy helping couples learn to connect and communicate.

You worry all the time and wonder what is wrong with you. You notice others around you going about their day, laughing and having fun, when all you think about is what is going to go wrong next. My career began in the field of Substance Abuse. From there I have been working with children, adolescents, teens, and adults with various mental diagnoses over the past 13 years. I am involved in various Human Rights campaigns and a firm believer in equality. My philosophy is simple, provide no-nonsense, affordable care for the people.

I have a dual focus on both therapy and Sports Psychology. I have tremendous success is treating clients with issues related to adolescence, transitioning into young adulthood, failure to launch, parent/child conflict, anxiety, trauma and developing mental focus to achieve specific performance goals and aspirations.
