Couples/partners can utilize discernment, Gottman, attachment-based and behavioral approaches to work towards enhanced communication and satisfaction.
The quest to live authentically is challenging but ultimately transformative. With hard work and supportive professional guidance, clients have the opportunity to examine persistent, troubling patterns without judgment or shame, and in doing so create space for growth and possibility. I work with clients age 6 to end of life -- individuals, partners, and families -- to explore individual and relational challenges that may lead to feeling depressed, anxious, or "stuck." I offer support with life transitions, including separation and divorce. My work is LGBTQ+ affirmative, culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, confidential.

My approach is attachment-based and trauma responsive.
In my work with individuals and couples, I engage in each therapeutic relationship with a warm, reflective, and grounding presence. I believe firmly in the worthiness of all to a sense of belonging, dignity, and agency and have witnessed time and again how therapy can be a powerful tool in accessing these needs. Being heard and understood within a supportive therapy environment allows us to both uncover our innate strengths and cultivate the skills and insight necessary to reduce suffering. Regardless of how ingrained and automatic our patterns might be and how stuck we might feel, a more peaceful life is possible for each of us.

I know that each person I work with is unique, so I draw upon a range of modalities including attachment-based therapies and somatic practices.
I believe one of the most healing things we can do is understand our stories and how it affects our everyday life and relationships. These experiences can manifest in different ways such as anxiety, emotional numbness, or relationship challenges. The clients I work with have oftentimes experienced complex relational traumas in childhood and dysfunctional family dynamics. Through these difficult experiences, we develop coping strategies and protective behaviors, which may no longer be serving you.

I chose the name 'Voyagers' for this practice because I feel we are all on a journey together traveling, through time and space. I picture the metaphor of a ship navigating the open sea, riding the waves just as we do in our lives. Realistically, there will always be unavoidable waves in our lives- some larger than others- and sometimes we need a helping hand to voyage through safely in a way that embraces our unique individuality.

I work with couples, families, and individuals looking to strengthen feelings of connection as they navigate relational challenges, transitions, and changes. I have witnessed the powerful healing that can occur when people, like you, allow themselves to be vulnerable and courageous in seeking support. I work to create an environment where people can feel safe to share their stories and open up about their challenges, strengths, values, perspectives, and hopes for the future. I believe in the importance of understanding problems through a systemic lens and supporting people in creating meaningful and lasting changes in their lives.

Maybe you’re feeling alone and disconnected from the world, like you have to hide your true self. You’ve forgotten what it’s like to be happy, are in the middle of a major transition, or need to cope with something really painful but are not sure how. You oscillate between numbness and overwhelming emotions, it’s difficult to set and maintain boundaries, or your relationships are not what you want them to be. You know you want things to be different, and you are ready to take a step toward healing with the support of a therapist who will see, hear, and understand you as a whole person (not just a bunch of symptoms) without judgment.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
