I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor as well as a Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor, experienced working with adolescents, adults, and families with issues around substance abuse, depression, anxiety, self harm, suicidal ideation, grief and loss, and end of life issues. My role is to help you in uncovering answers and to support you in your healing and development. Counseling involves the sharing of personal problems, concern, and stories. As a professional, I am committed to helping my clients find resolution or solutions for their particular situations.

Sometimes life is complicated, stressful, and can feel overwhelming, especially in today's world. When interpersonal relationships, family dynamics, or mental health challenges present themselves it is comforting to know that you don't have to sit with all of that by yourself. Connecting with someone and working on life's difficulties, whether it be old wounds or new, can be liberating and empowering. Together we can explore your thoughts, feelings, and emotions; together we can work on the difficult and rewarding work of being the best version of yourself you can be.
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”, Lao Tzu. You have taken your first courageous step toward creating a more enriching life. No one embarks on this journey of healing alone, as we all need and benefit from guidance. I embrace a holistic, integrative, person-centered and strengths-based approach to wellness, steeped in empathy and compassion. Like all healthy relationships, the client and therapist alliance must be built on a foundation of trust, from which we can explore whatever concerns you; be it anxiety, depression or life transitions that may be interfering with you living to your fullest potential.
I see the human person as made up of body, mind, and spirit, and each dimension affects the other, especially during times of crisis, stress, transition, and disharmony. In sessions with clients, we gradually attend to all these dimensions and consider each as an essential part of the process of healing and balancing one's life.
The brain has an immense capacity to change and grow over a lifetime. Clinical research demonstrates even a few months of mindfulness practice can be effective in treating chronic stress, depression, anxiety, addictions, pain, illness, and can boost performance under pressure, enhance intimate relationships, and improve enjoyment of work. I use my teaching experience, professional counseling training, and knowledge of neuroscience to tailor you a set of practical skills you can use daily. I will help you use your strengths to harness the power of your brain and develop skills to uncover more peace, joy, and freedom in your life!
I am a licensed clinical social worker with nineteen years experience working with families and individuals of all ages. A recent client had this to say about our time together, "your healing energy and...comfort that you bring to your practice is so warming, safe and empowering. You have undoubtedly contributed to making me "me" during a time of transformation [and I} will always have your many perspectives tucked away in my brain for when things get tough"
Psychotherapy is a lifelong arduous learning and self exploration process that will improve the quality of life. I approach therapy with genuineness, unconditional positive regard, accurate empathy, and respect. I will competently employ techniques in which I have received training to assist you in reaching your goals. Technics I may use are EMDR, hypnosis, confrontation, desensitization, homework, humor, imagery, 'I' statements, modeling, psychodrama, journal writing and role-playing. If through the course of psychotherapy an acceptable degree of progress is not reached, I will refer you to another licensed professional.
I operate under the belief that mental health and wellness exists at the junction of the biological, social and psychological facets of an individual, and that a balance is needed to address the human condition. With this in mind even the most difficult of concerns to address can be a profound force for positive change in someone's life.
Life can be hard, and often can leave us feeling stuck. Feeling “stuck” means many different things to different people; perhaps it’s causing you to feel depressed, anxious, stressed, self-conscious, angry, etc. In order to be free from these things we need to be willing to make changes to our lives, and doing that alone can be difficult. In times like this, working with a counselor can be particularly helpful. I believe everyone has the capacity to make meaningful changes in their life. Whether those changes are related to healing, or personal growth and exploration, I will be there to help you.
I have a practice of general psychotherapy with a focus on trauma. The basis of my work is the theory that we all have a self- healing system that sometimes can be overwhelmed by events and lead to symptoms. My goals are to develop a collaborative relationship with my clients, identify goals, and to make a plan for treatment that is based on what they would like for themselves. My experience is in treatment of: anxiety, depression, complex grief and life transitions. I also offer experience in resolution of current trauma and in treatment of the effects of difficult experiences in childhood and unmet developmental needs.
My integrative approach to psychotherapy draws upon expressive arts practices, mind-body connection principles, humanistic and psychodynamic theories, and the belief in the wisdom, resourcefulness and resiliency that exists within each of us.
Reaching out for help can be overwhelming, and I commend you for taking this first step in making a real change. My practice provides a safe, non-judgmental environment, for us to build a trusting relationship together. Through this journey, we will find strengths in your ability to take on life’s challenges, and work together through your struggles.
We are expected to tend to our physical wellness with annual physicals as a means to prevent acute illness and chronic disease. However, when it comes to our mental health, we often do not give the same attention and care. I provide a non-judgmental, safe space where you have the opportunity to nurture yourself fully; mind, body, and spirit.
