Are you a business owner, a doctor, chef or in a service industry?Do you feel successful in having climbed the latter of your trade, while at the same time let your self or well care go? Perhaps your sleep has become hard to come by, or your moods have been stuck in anxiety or and endless thought cycle of lacking or not enough. Did something in your life just change? A job loss, or relationship shift? A medical appointment that gave you unsettling news? These events that wake us up are usually great opportunities for change in the right direction. I know it doesn't feel that way. It can feel really lonely.

I have been working in the field of alcohol and drugs since 1986. This has included a variety of settings: medical and social detox, in-patient hospital, community mental health, and IOP. Over the years I have seen many people that are still in physical or emotional pain as a result of accidents or emotional trauma. Their treatments have often left them craving for more drugs and they have ended up with addictions instead of a successful resolution of their injuries. I discovered that soft tissue injuries can be treated successfully without drugs as long as life style changes are made.

People want and need to grow in their capacity to experience emotional intimacy with self, other, and even the universe. Emotional intimacy is deep connection, coupled with an absence of fear and freedom of expression. My personal and professional experience is that when humans feel safe and truly heard, we are able to be more aware of our full range of experience. If, in this state, we ask or are met by the right questions, personal truth springs forward.

I help individuals and couples who want to improve the quality of their relationships - to others and to themselves. I help people who want to communicate better, who want to listen to and understand their partner better, and who want to get more of a handle on their reactions. I also work with individuals who want to feel less stressed, who want to feel better about who they are, who want more clarity, and who know that a greater sense of fulfillment and peace is possible.

Each person experiences mental distress uniquely. My aim is to partner with my client to ensure their safety in our shared space, create a bond of trust, and then dive into problems and solutions. Whether one experiences identity- or event-based problems and whether those are caused by individual development or social conditions, I strongly believe in the innate ability of trusting partnerships to overcome the troubles in our lives. If I'm not the right therapist for a person, I will work hard to keep them safe until they decide how to move forward.

I believe that every person is unique and has potential to grow and become the best version of themselves. Often the judgement of others guides our life choices and keeps us from meeting our full potential. When you truly accept yourself you can then make choices that lead you to who you really are. You are the expert of your life and my job is to help guide you through the process of self discovery and meet your goals.

I believe that the most healing, transformative therapeutic work occurs when there is an authentic relationship between therapist and client. I provide an environment which fundamentally supports a feeling of safety by witnessing you where you are with curiosity and without judgment. For many people, feeling safe also involves being able to set their own pace in therapy.

This is a non judgmental zone, there are no power struggles and you will feel welcomed.

Would you like to learn about strengthening resilience to further trauma and stress in your body and mind? My goal is to teach you somatic tools that you can use independently for a relationship with a more settled, grounded nervous system. I can help you create a calmer nervous system free of the higher highs and lower lows of trauma activation. Greater regulation can help you resolve stress and increase health. Together we can reduce anxiety and startle response, lessen fatigue, address pain and inflammation and learn about regulation. If you are curious about resolving trauma responses in your nervous system, I can help.

How can I find a therapist in Vermont?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
