Art therapy offers a way for your child to communicate without sole reliance on words. As a registered art therapist and a licensed clinical mental health counselor, I specialize in the treatment of children's mental health issues such as: anxiety, depression, problems with attention/concentration, and stress reactions caused by trauma or painful life events. I have been in practice since 2005 and I am trained in the ARC Model of trauma recovery. This approach focuses on building strength and resilience, emotional regulation, attachment, self-concept, and the integration of trauma so that one can live a full life.
In my practice, I treat older adolescents, college students, adults, and families. I have extensive experience in working with those who face a variety of issues including anxiety, depressed mood, OCD, grief, family and life transitions, chronic illness, peer issues, trauma, adoption, and attachment-related concerns. Additionally, I work with clients seeking to deepen self-awareness, heal emotional wounds, and explore areas in their lives that they would like to strengthen.
Greetings! My approach is client- centered; I work to build a positive, trusting relationship that focuses on your concerns and goals. I believe that our positive and negative thoughts often control or motivate our behaviors and feelings. if we can learn to question and change our negative thoughts, we can then start to shift our feelings and behaviors towards more positive outcomes.
My role as a therapist is to provide an environment of safety, trust and mutual respect for each individual I work with. I am committed to supporting improvement in your quality of life. Effective counseling can assist you in developing an awareness of personal strengths, clarifying problems and arriving at solutions. Your active involvement is an important component in changing behavior, thoughts and feelings. I currently have a wait list but please email me if you would like to be on my wait list.
No openings at this time. Darlene's goal is to help you develop internal resources that profoundly affect your life. "I want my clients to know that they can impact their experience." She uses non-traditional modalities to treat anxiety and trauma.
My goal is to create a safe, positive environment where you can explore the sources of stress and distress in your life. More than this, my goal is to work collaboratively with you to identify solutions and bring about positive change, whether in unwanted behaviors, challenging relationships, or new anxieties brought on by our ever-changing world.
*NEW CLIENTS PLEASE REACH OUT USING EMAIL FIRST! (Easier for me to respond and get things started) I work well with clients seeking presence, compassion, and the space for vulnerability across a broad range of presenting concerns. My personal style supports witnessing and unburdening as much as "diagnosis" and "treatment". I offer validation and acceptance within a co-created relationship. Warmth and humor are necessary touchstones while we explore the arc of life.
Are you thinking about making a change? I am ready to help facilitate that change with you and empower you with skills to see that change happen! I have more than 10 years of therapy experience and we draw on and practice skills that best suit your needs to help you become the most successful you can be.
Asking for help can be one of the hardest decisions/actions an individual takes when they are struggling with actively using alcohol and/or substances. I also believe it is the most courageous decision/action you may make in your life. An individual who does this is allowing themselves to be vulnerable. When done with the right support can be the most rewarding and empowering experience for an individual. My goal as a counselor is to provide a safe, warm space for you as the client to explore your relationship with alcohol and/or substances.
I use a combination of therapeutic interventions to help with the diverse challenges that children, adolescents, and adults experience. My approach is warm, relational and client-centered. I draw upon research and evidence based approaches while also looking deeper at relational patterns and a narrative that may be causing distress. We will create goals for mental health treatment that best support your individual needs and the conflicts you or your child are facing. Together we learn what helps you feel better.
Many people look for a counselor when they recognize repeating patterns that aren't serving them well. They seek to understand how they got there. This pattern could be depression, overeating, low self-esteem, difficult relationships, parenting issues, body image, etc. I can provide assistance toward understanding and improving your patterns by helping you to reframe and overcome challenges you face through a positive lens. We can explore an array of informed, viable solutions, illuminating and reinforcing support systems, identifying and evaluating coping tools, their efficacy, and gaining new ones.
My Practice is full at this time- I am unable to take new clients. I offer counseling, consultation/supervision and professional coaching. My approaches for supporting positive change include EMDR, emotional freedom tapping (acupressure), body/yoga work, cognitive behavioral treatment and others. I look forward to working with people wanting to change experiences of anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress, identity issues, substance issues (or loving someone who has substance issues) as well as pregnancy, post-partum and fertility issues. I work with adults over 18 individually, couples and groups.
Do you notice that you are a people pleaser? Has it become apparent that parenting, caretaking, and being a giver has now left you tired and resentful? Feelings of overwhelm, exhaustion, and lack of rest ad up to stagnation. Work life balance... that seems like a dream. Self-care, and regulating our emotions has been been put off for so long, that you don't even know where to begin or how to commit. A more potent solution is called for. Believe it or not resiliency develops every small step you take to pick yourself up. Before you know it you feel flow and momentum. Collaboration and interconnectedness is essential for us all.
I am here to provide a therapeutic space that is safe and inclusive for all individuals; a space where you are able to expand your capacity to sit with even the most difficult feelings and emotions and transform them into deeper levels of awareness. In my work I always strive to honor the present moment and help you tap into your own inner wisdom. I believe we all have the capacity to experience greater levels of joy when we learn how to be with it all. The good. The bad. The complex.
Finding someone with whom you feel comfortable and understood is the most important factor in effective therapy. I offer a safe place to explore your concerns while learning healthy and effective ways to manage intense feelings and resolve problems. Our work together can help you uncover ways your past may be impacting your present, learn new ways of looking at things, and grow confidence in your ability to live well.
(Currently Not Accepting New Clients) I provide counseling to people with a range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, chronic pain, PTSD and substance use. I work with clients who are age 14 and older, I enjoy working with people of all ages. My interest in non-invasive techniques and complimentary treatments would likely be attractive to patients with similar interests. I believe that patients have the ability heal their own struggles and my role is to provide support and guidance to patients as they go through this journey.
Are you stuck? Worried about what direction you are going in and wondering why you struggle with relationships? Are you a couple wanting to explore the way you communicate? I work with individuals, couples and people who would like to explore their relationships, goals, communication skills and want to feel more satisfaction in their life journey. I have worked with folks who struggle with trauma, anxiety, depression, anger and fear and understand we don't live in a bubble but in the structures of our lives (school, relationships, careers, communities, etc.)
I believe that all people have a past that has contributed to the unique being that they are today, and that each of us have the ability to make positive change and live meaningful lives. My goal is to provide a safe, caring environment that allows for collaboration and growth towards the goals of my client. I enjoy working with, teens, and adults, in the areas of depression, anxiety, marital stress, prenatal/maternal challenges, and military related stressors.
