*Currently full* I focus on creating the unconditional connection and space you need to work on the issues confronting you right now. I integrate elements of EMDR, mindfulness, Internal Family Systems theory, and humanistic approaches. I work with you to address symptoms of depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship issues, past and present painful experiences, various life transitions and stressors. I have completed Part 1 and 2 of EMDR training and I am excited to incorporate this highly effective approach for trauma, depression, and/or anxiety symptoms, as well as any negative patterns or experiences that feel stuck.
I provide individual and family therapy for children, adolescents and adults. I work to develop a trusting relationship with each individual based on acceptance, understanding and mutual respect. Since I have expertise in a variety of treatment approaches, I can collaborate with each individual or family to provide treatment that aligns with the individual or family goals and needs. The process of healing and growth often involves gaining more understanding of oneself and one's family, learning how to draw on existing strengths and resources, gaining confidence, and/or learning new skills.
I believe that the relationship between client and counselor is key to healing and growth. I bring a supportive and non-judgmental approach to examine the thoughts and beliefs that keep us stuck in unproductive and often painful patterns in our lives and in our relationships. Using warmth, compassionate curiosity, humor, and especially respect, I build a strong alliance to support adults from all backgrounds and identities who are experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty in relationships, major life transitions, substance use, abuse, and addiction. Together we can begin to identify and heal breaches in trust from the past.
Change happens in a safe relationship that is witnessed. You get to interview me, give feedback and also challenge me; my job is to be present and model a safe, healthy relationship. I am especially effective with those wanting to break generational trauma patterns, learn healthy communication styles and become boundary aware.
As you navigate the many qualities of your life—the personal, relational, and professional; your goals and aspirations; the range of day-to-day experiences—you may at times encounter challenges that feel insurmountable. You might doubt your strength and resilience, feel stuck, and be uncertain of how to reconnect again with yourself, your pursuits, and those important to you. It is possible you feel lost and find that familiar efforts to cope are no longer effective, leaving you searching for other ways to manage.
Everyone has the strength and wisdom needed within themselves to heal, but sometimes may need help unlocking their inner resources get started. Perhaps something has happened in your life that has made you seek help, or maybe you've struggled for a long time with negative thoughts, trauma, mood swings, low self esteem or overwhelming emotions, and you have decided it is now time to gain more control over your life, experience more joy, and learn to live in the present. Or, you may be seeking something as simple as having a safe space to understand yourself better. Whatever the reason, I am here to meet you where you are.
For me and my work there aren't many things more powerful and influential than a genuine human connection, a respectful relationship, and a safe space for exploration. I believe the root source of any change comes from feeling secure in these very areas. My hope is that I can provide these basic foundations with my clients. I strive to create a space in which there is respect, humor, no judgement, and an openness to learn. I find that in this space people are able to tackle a range of issues, strengthen skills, and positive growth takes place.

I have a passion for supporting people throughout the lifespan including new mothers/fathers as they navigate changes that come with parenthood, as well as the geriatric community navigating aging, and at times loss of independence. I have worked for over thirty years as a therapist. My focus has been with emerging adults, and older with substance abuse or recovery challenges. I have also worked extensively with couples re-adjusting to a more balanced, healthy life style. This includes couple counseling with one or both individuals in recovery.
I've developed techniques based on my personality that help people change for the better as quickly, efficiently, and painlessly as possible. My ways of helping clients require me to understand how they think, compare it to the reality I see, and discuss the differences. After practicing as a clinical psychologist in rural Vermont for 36 years, I'm now a Life Coach offering short term interventions to help solve minor or major emotional problems. I have lots of experience connecting with resources & professionals for legal or medical needs. I don't bill insurance. To me confidentiality is a high priority. I'm a professional friend.
