Relationship habits with our intimate partners can create familiarity and easefulness—they can also inhibit a fresh and fulfilling way of being together. When relationship shortcuts create disconnection or even hurtful interactions, we feel misunderstood and not seen for our true hopes and intentions. I support you to slow down and connect in the present moment where the power resides to develop a whole-body intimacy with a partner. It is in the here and now where you can reawaken the creativity and integrity of your connection.

Are you confused about why you are feeling the way you are feeling? Do you wish things were different? Are you feeling disconnected from others or yourself? Current neuroscience and research tells us that about 95 percent of the way we think, feel, and act is unconscious and automatic. In my practice, I help people understand why they are acting, feeling, and thinking they are so they can begin change their internal reality. I partner with my client’s to educate and empower them to understand themselves better so they can begin to live more intentionally and pursue their passions in meaningful ways.

Are you a woman facing painful sex, fertility problems, relationship struggles, or both? Do you have a health situation you don't feel like you can talk about because "you look fine"? Have you ever experienced a significant trauma or sexual assault? Do you have relationship issues that are affected by any of these things? Health problems and recovering from trauma is scary, then the way that people respond to them can make us feel like our problems are minimized and invalidated. This can make us feel alone, helpless, terrified, as well as frustrated with the responses of people around us. -now offering EMDR

You want someone who gets you, who can put words to things you’ve been feeling, who can break it down in a way you understand. You want someone who will accept you as you are without judgment, and yet hold you accountable to your higher self, your greater good. You don't want to have to explain who you are to someone who doesn't get it, while you're trying to get help from them. You want to side-step the microaggressions, unpack the internalized oppression, so you can love yourself and be the BOSS you were meant to be.

My ideal clients are adults experiencing burnout in helping professions, or who are at a transitional time in life. You know there is more out there, but you are stuck in a routine of your own making that doesn’t match what you know is possible. My clients are most often highly intelligent, self aware, and marginalized people who have a history of trauma and have struggled with perfectionism and over-achieving their entire lives. You may people please, feel overly empathetic and drained by others’ problems and emotions, or wonder why others don’t notice the larger, systemic issues at work or in society that seem so obvious to you.

Is your kiddo lacking confidence, overwhelmed by their emotions, yet you know deep inside there is a magical human just waiting to be discovered? I work with children who are highly intellectual, empathic, and feeling beings who oftentimes have been targeted by schools, peers, and teachers as being the "problem." The truth is they are not the problem and you know this, but yet their everyday functioning is being hindered. Getting to school or having play dates often seems like more of a challenge for you than the other families you know.

If you've been contemplating counseling, now is the time! As a Christian Therapist, I believe that God desires so much more for us than we are currently experiencing. If you're feeling heavy, life can be lighter. If you're struggling to see change in your life, a new more peaceful life is possible. Your desires, goals and dreams for life are not selfish, and I believe that Christ calls us to live life to the full. If your life does not feel "full", change is possible. You were meant for more.

Are you a parent of a kiddo that’s having a hard time? Maybe there’s hitting, yelling, and tantrums, or negative language directed towards themselves or others. Perhaps they are struggling to process a difficult event in their life, whether that’s a death in the family, bullying, or divorce. Maybe you're not exactly sure why they're acting out. I work with children experiencing big behaviors, low self-esteem, and difficulty in transitions. I know, as you likely do, that these are good kids having a hard time. I have a passion for working with non-traditional families, and those who have experienced trauma and/or deep loss and grief.

Adults I work with often find they are an expert in taking care of everyone around them but feel uncertain how to take care of themselves. They may be "people pleasers" and know in great detail what others may need and how to fix things, but struggle to know what they need, how they feel or how to address their own problems. This often leads to feelings of anger, resentment, exhaustion, self-harming thoughts and neglect of their own needs, with an increase in anxiety, depression, or grief. They may also have experienced trauma and are struggling with triggers impacting their functioning.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Colorado?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
