I help parents and caregivers seeking a better relationship with their 3 to 12-year-old children. While working to help children learn to manage their emotions, I include parents/caregivers to help them understand their child's behaviors. Often therapy begins with an implicit question, such as “will I be okay?” or, “can I feel better?” Other clients might wonder if they will be accepted for who they are, both in and outside of therapy. I welcome you to bring your full self into our space together. I am here to meet you where you are with warmth and unconditional positive regard. Everyone needs something a little different - to move through stuck points, to gain insight, or to reconnect with oneself or others. Whatever your needs, I believe therapy should be flexible and responsive to your individual circumstances. We will co-create an approach tailored to your goals.

At its core, I believe therapy to be about creating space for change. People come to therapy for a variety of reasons—seeking support and healing, desiring change, looking for relief from pain. With a relational and trauma-informed lens, we’ll look at how you landed here, in an effort to find new ways of being that may be kinder to yourself and more congruent with a whole and healthy life. I work with teens, adults, and couples on issues of trauma, anxiety, grief, relationships, life transitions, and identity formation. I have focused much of my work supporting women recovering from trauma.

Traumatic experiences can leave us feeling disempowered, dysregulated, and profoundly disconnected from our passions, our loved ones, and even ourselves. Inherently resilient and adaptable beings, we find ways to cope after a trauma - we mask our emotions, numb our pain, and we keep going. As a trauma therapist, my job is to help trauma survivors move beyond this state of coping and surviving to a place of lasting healing by supporting them in cultivating a sense of safety, making sense of their experience, and connecting to their essential selves.

My belief is that counseling is most effective when taking a collaborative and holistic approach. Every individual is unique in their needs and the time it takes to address them. I strive to create a strong, therapeutic relationship that is built on trust, respect, responsibility, empathy, attentiveness, and open-mindedness through communication. My goal is to offer you a safe and supportive space, to walk with you in your journey, explore aspects of the 'self' that you would like to build on, and discover strengths that can be used in your present and future to have the life that you desire.

Rooted firmly in evidenced-based treatment approaches, my clients and I then collaborate, designing goals and adapting treatment to best fit an individual's needs. I aim to provide trauma-informed care which includes both an understanding of how trauma impacts the brain and body as well as the ongoing trauma of being in a marginalized community. I am committed to providing antiracist and anticolonial, Queer and Trans-affirming, and neurodiverse affirming care.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
