As a therapist, it is my mission to help you live a joyful, vibrant life, even if you are facing life circumstances or mental health issues that are less than ideal. I specialize in helping individuals and couples with ADHD/Autism and other expressions of neurodivergence, depression, OCD, anxiety, PTSD resulting from abusive situations, and compulsive sexual behavior. I have a special knack for helping high-achieving professionals. I also help couples who feel as though they no longer "connect" or who don't feel as close as they once felt. I believe you have the strength to reach your goals, and lead a joyful life.

Hi, my name is Bethany. Life is rarely easy to navigate, and sometimes can leave us feeling adrift, lost, scared, or hopeless. In those times, having someone in your corner, who can help you find your way, can make all the difference. I am passionate about helping people traverse life's storms, so they can find the peace they always hoped for. Whether these challenges are due to habits you want to break, mindsets that hold you back, or past events that follow you when you wish you could leave them behind, I would love the opportunity to partner with you and face the storm.

What could life be like without the obnoxious voices of anxiety, self-doubt, or trauma? You possess the wisdom and the strength you need to face whatever challenges you, but listening to yourself isn't always easy. I’m here to help you turn the volume down on those obnoxious voices so you can listen to your own intuition and move towards what matters most to you.
I approach my work with respect, humility, curiosity, and humor, and I welcome all of your humanness (laughter, tears, messiness, apprehension, and swears) as we discover what is most true to you and dispose of old stories about yourself that no longer serve you.

Hi! I'm Lou. I work with queer and trans young adults. Therapy can be challenging, but it can also be beautiful and healing. It is my goal to meet you with compassion, support, and a safe space to help you through whatever difficulties or pain you may be experiencing. As a part of the Queer and trans community, I understand how important representation and connection is. Of course, we all have our own unique stories. Your story is not my story, and my story is not yours. However, I find that it is incredibly helpful (and dare I say, healing even) to have that common understanding and shared experience with my clients.

You’re tired of code-switching or editing who you are just to be heard. Whether you’re navigating the nuances of queer identity, the weight of being a person of color in complex systems, or the exhaustion of relational trauma, you deserve a therapeutic partnership where your intersectional identity is honored as a source of strength, allowing us to focus on your growth and insight. You want to feel relaxed and grounded, but right now, the world—and perhaps your own history—has made it difficult to trust not only yourself, but others, too.

People prioritize therapy when it is necessary or important to them. I want to make therapy flexible enough for your busy life, with evening appointments, telehealth, and in-person options. Therapy works best if you have a trusting relationship with your therapist, and I aim to provide that setting, getting to know who you are and what you need, as you are the expert on your life. I hope to help you with the skills that will be useful throughout your life. While I work from a variety of treatment lenses, I believe the best way to heal is through the relationship and trust built.

From the outside it seems like you have it all together, so why aren't you content? Maybe it's work, your relationships, or something else you can't quite put your finger on. Maybe you're struggling with feelings of sadness, unfulfillment, or pain. Maybe you find it difficult to relax, be present, and are constantly looking forward to when you'll finally be happy. Whatever it is, it doesn't feel good, and it definitely doesn't have to be this way. In therapy, I will work to build a collaborative relationship where we can explore these feelings together, and help you to tap into a life that holds more meaning, ease, and fulfilment.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
