However, I heavily rely on parts work (Internal Family Systems) to promote healing and growth for my clients.
Life can be very difficult and it is easy to become overwhelmed by the history, trauma, relationships, or emotional weight you may be carrying. I believe you have everything you need to face your challenges and that there are innate skills that just need to be accessed to overcome what is holding you back. It is our job, together, to access those skills and create a plan that will bring more peace and meaning into your life.

The frequency and length of treatment may be different for each individual or family.
Do current events have you frazzled? Ever felt like you were in a relationship with someone who wasn't available? Or are you trying to rediscover yourself after divorce, having a child go off to college, or death of a loved one? I help people with all kinds of situations. Whether you are experiencing problems in a relationship, grief or bereavement, depression, anxiety, or a spiritual crisis, there is hope. I am trained in EMDR, CBT, ACT, DBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, psychodynamic theory, and routinely learn from experts in the field. Perhaps most important though, is that I listen.

When I am not working, you will find me exploring Utah’s national parks, spending time with friends and family, or jamming on the guitar.
Life includes unique and meaningful journeys for each of us. During that journey, we all face wounds that require healing and mending. As a therapist, I would be honored to be a part of the healing journey for you and your loved ones. My goal is to provide a collaborative, supportive, and understanding environment focused on your growth, development, and recovery. I approach therapy with a respect for the importance of care in multiple life areas: biological, psychological, relational, and spiritual. I seek to provide healing with respect to the many unique identities and experiences that we each hold in our lives.

My experience includes Childhood/Developmental Trauma, Complex Trauma (C-PTSD), IFS/Parts Work, Family Systems, Anxiety, Divorce/blending families, Betrayal Trauma, High Conflict Divorce Coaching/Family Court and Transgender support for families.
I believe one of the bravest things you can do is to begin to dive deep into your childhood and connect those experiences with what you encounter in your daily life. Taking that first step can be terrifying and my desire is to help guide you through changes to help you get where you want to be in your healing journey. Whether that is learning how to set and hold healthy boundaries, managing overwhelming anxiety, practicing Mindfulness tools or addressing deep wounds that come from trauma, I hope to support you to achieve greater freedom from what is holding you back now.

I work with anyone who wants relief from emotional, social, spiritual, academic, and/or family burdens.
Hi! I'm Max. First off, I love my job. I love getting to know people, listening, supporting, teaching, and guiding them on their path of healing and success. I see therapy as an opportunity to slow down the frantic pace of life and explore ways to cope, regain control of life's challenges, increase self-worth, and rebuild or enrich relationships.

Many kids experience difficulties with day-to-day activities such as school, family time, sports, and in socializing with other kids and sometimes no matter what you might try to do to help, things do not seem to get better.
My passion is to connect with kids that is more natural and comfortable. It can be hard and uncomfortable for kids to "talk" about personal and difficult emotions. Because of this, my focus is on utilizing expressive therapies to help children sort through and process emotions and events through art, playing games, structured and unstructured play, etc. all while helping them to identify their own strengths, how to use those strengths to overcome the challenges they are facing, and work toward an optimistic future!

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
