I am trained in trauma-informed approaches including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), IFS (Internal Family Systems), and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT).
Life can be complicated and full of traumatic events that overwhelm us. As a result, problematic patterns that negatively affect almost every area of life may begin. These overwhelming events may also negatively shift beliefs about self, others, and the world at large. Once this occurs, it can be difficult to repair without professional help. Additionally, trauma can be unique to the individual. It's not always a confrontation with mortality but rather, a deep hurt or betrayal by someone we should have been able to trust.

Furthermore, I have the passion to help with healing and rebuilding individual lives that have been broken from trauma and abuse.
Some of the most difficult and scary steps to take are those beginning steps of change. Often times these steps are out of one's comfort zone, and the first instinct is to want to hide, run or give up entirely. Life never promises or guarantees a pain free existence! However, with first steps and the courage to try, there can be a guarantee to oneself, to learn to take on challenges, struggles, pain, hurt, hang-ups, habits, addictions, etc. At this point its ok and have acceptance of one's difficulties and to embrace it. It's possible with the right guidance, support, and building of skills to rebuild what's been broken/is breaking.

I have worked with court- and board-ordered clients, becoming specialized in addiction, men’s and women’s trauma, developmental trauma, intimate partner violence, grief/loss, and attachment/intimacy disorders.
I believe the story you tell yourself about yourself and your relationships is far more meaningful and descriptive than a diagnosis or other label that may have been placed on you. My goal is to assist you in gaining clarity about that story, who you are and where you are in life – your aspirations, talents, skills, obligations, and needs – so you can move confidently into the future, staying connected to those you love and the things that bring you joy. You do not have to be a victim of fear, insecurity, or disappointment – harness your natural abilities, virtues, and powers to be the hero of your life.

Based on client preferences and fit, I used a combination of trauma sensitive treatments including EMDR, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, DBT, and Solution Focused Treatment.
My client often has experiences of loss, pain, even abuse that take away predictability of safety. These losses can cause significant fears leading them to question who they are and who they can trust. Be it a lost or difficult relationship, a break with a religion you grew up in, or a change in how you see yourself at this new phase of life, together we can ease those fears and identify the next steps to making life feel easier, more fulfilling, and a genuine fit for who you are.

I have extensive experience in helping clients navigate through depression, anxiety, abuse, adoption issues, substance abuse, marriage and family issues, and trauma.
While sometimes life seems to move along pretty smoothly, no one is going to escape dealing with challenging circumstances in their life. Whether you might be dealing with something in the past or a present event, relationships with others and the decisions you make are affected by the emotions you are feeling. As a Certified Mental Health Therapist, I believe that when someone is struggling with mental health related issues, seeking help is the best thing you can do for yourself. Emotional issues are often silent and unseen, but seeking help can provide the support and clarity needed to help you move forward.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
