I'm passionate about working with the LGBTQ+ community and offering queer-affirming care.
Trying to figure out the next step can be overwhelming and lonely when we feel stuck. Whether we are trying to navigate relationships, personal and religious beliefs, or sexual/gender orientation- it can be hard! I truly believe you are the expert of your life, and believe the answers are within you. Sometimes we may know where we want to get to but feel the next steps to getting there are unsteady, unfamiliar or not even visible at the moment. Having a place to be able to emotionally process and break down realistic and meaningful steps can help to find clarity and find coping strategies that fit for you.

I have extensive clinical experience working with LGBTQIA+ individuals.
My top priority is for each client to feel seen, understood, supported, and not alone. I work to facilitate a judgment-free space where people can explore their traumas, self esteem, and life experiences to better understand who they are, where they’ve come from, and where they want to be. My style of practice is one of openness and acceptance that includes the empathy to provide a difficult ‘push’ when necessary. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, issues of self-worth, identity and self image, or environmental life stressors, it is my goal to help you feel secure in your journey towards healing.

I work with youth and adults, and have training in play therapy, EMDR, working with neurodivergence, and LGBTQ+ concerns.
I believe we all have within us what it takes to grow, heal, and work towards our goals, and I am honored to be a part of this journey with my clients. If you’re not sure what to expect from counseling, that’s okay! Working with me starts with getting to know your story, what you’re struggling with, and what your goals are. You can ask me questions about my training, experience, and philosophy to help you determine if I could be a good fit for you.

I have extensive experience with at-risk teens and the LGBTQ+ community, which have significantly shaped the way that I support and work with clients.
In order to imagine a better future for yourself, you must acknowledge, welcome, and process your past emotional experience. As a University of Utah School of Social Work student, my desire is to empower you to heal your generational trauma, understand and separate from societal expectations, identify your values and begin living within those values. When we work together, my priority is building your trust in our relationship.

I am working towards certification with AASECT as a Sex Therapist (CST), which brings focus to sex and relationships and how they intertwine with mental health concerns. These topics can look like sexual shame, sexuality/gender exploration, sexual dysfunction, relationship models, prioritizing pleasure, societal expectations/taboo, and much more. I am especially passionate about working with the LGBTQIA+, kink, sex work, and non-monogamous communities. I believe that therapy is a space to feel comfortable and confident as your authentic self, and a place where you can explore emotions, meaning, and personal values without judgement.

I am primarily focused on working with teens, young adults, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and women experiencing anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and life changes.
Choosing to go to therapy and finding the right therapist can be difficult. Especially when life feels overwhelming and you don’t know where to begin. Therapy is a great place to start working towards your goals and to gain support where you need it. I fell in love with being a therapist and watching a person become a healthier version of themselves, no matter what that looks like. I want to create a warm and welcoming environment for all who choose to come to therapy.

I have extensive experience with embracing neurodiversity and I'm passionate about providing LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy.
I understand that change is achieved through the creation of a safe, trusting relationship, making space to have your story heard, your strengths recognized, and your emotions witnessed. Creating that type of space requires lots of realness and a little time.

I have a passion for helping individuals who want to improve their quality of life - especially adolescents, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and individuals in and involved with the foster care system.
I believe that therapy should be a personalized and empowering experience that teaches individuals to become masters of their own fates. My counseling identity prioritizes having unconditional positive regard for the client while encouraging the client to mold a happier and healthier life for themselves. “Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.” Neil Gaiman

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
