I specialize in anxiety, trauma, & relationship issues. Anxiety doesn't have to be something you just live with - you can learn to manage it. Your trauma or abuse story may stem from chilchood abuse, neglect or attachment wounding, or perhpas your've been wounded spiritually or relationally as an adult. Improving your mental health can change your life, restore hope, heal emotional wounds, & move your life and relationships in the direction you desire. Counseling is a journey - sometimes tough, always rewarding - and I'd be honored to join you on yours. Christian counseling is an option if you prefer faith woven into counseling.

It's not easy to sit across from a counselor and to open up about what's going on in your life. Deep down you know you need to get help, but the challenge is to find someone you can trust and who doesn't judge, someone who "gets" you, and someone who will take the time to know you as a person, and not just a diagnosis. If you're Catholic/Christian, that also means someone who understands the role faith plays in your life, won't demean your faith, and who will bring faith into the healing process.

I have been working in the field of behavioral health for the past 16 years. I have a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation and extensive experience in providing therapy for adults with a variety of mental health and substance use disorders (i.e. trauma, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, anger management, marriage counseling).

I strongly believe in the power and importance of the therapeutic relationship between me and my clients. There is nothing more important to me than building trust and safety so that you feel comfortable opening up about what is happening in your life. I am very laid back and use an informal style that feels much more collaborative than authoritative. I am on the journey with you!

Often times life throws things at us that are just too difficult to overcome on our own. The way we think about things can often lead us astray and into a state of anxiety. We all need help from others from time to time as we go through difficult or challenging seasons in our lives. My personal journey along with my training and experience has enabled me to facilitate that journey with clients. My therapeutic approach is eclectic, including solution-focused brief therapy, cognitive-behavioral, directive, and coaching, relational, and strength-based. I also offer faith-based Christian counseling. We want our clientele to have a comfortable, curated experience, so we offer self-scheduling appointment service through your personal client portal.

My ideal client is an adult woman (18+) who would like someone to come alongside them on their healing journey. This client may have experienced some type of trauma in their past and would like to take some time to explore how it has and/or continues to impact them in various ways. Another client may be someone currently experiencing anxiety or sadness about something in their life and would like some help figuring out what is going on. After taking some time to examine their past and current life with the clinician, the client begins to take the necessary steps to heal and move forward in their lives.

Sandra is a licensed therapist and a Christian Counselor practicing in Northern Colorado (centrally located in the Loveland, Fort Collins, and Windsor area) and CA (Telehealth only). She has been practicing psychotherapy since 2004. She holds both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Social Work Degrees with high honors from the University of Southern California. Sandra is a licensed clinical social worker in the states of California and Colorado. Her commitment to the field extends to education, as she has served as an adjunct professor at Colorado State University, School of Social Work, Master of Social Work Program.

I am, first and foremost, a highly trained Christian Therapist. For over thirty years I have worked with couples, individuals, and families helping put an anchor back into their lives. As a Marriage and Family Therapist who is licensed in both Colorado and California, I have two Masters degrees: a Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Masters of Divinity (a three-year ministerial academic training) both earned from Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California that has been coined “The Princeton of the West”. I use a "systems" approach to marriage and family therapy which means I view each person as part of a whole.

Thank you for considering me as your counselor! I offer individual counseling to adults who feel stuck where they are. This includes struggles with trauma, anxiety, OCD, social anxiety, stress and life transitions, low self-esteem, suppression of self, dealing with chronic illness, and the struggles associated with being a highly sensitive person (HSP). As a Christian, I know how integral one’s beliefs can be. If you come from a faith tradition, we can discuss how best to integrate your beliefs in the counseling experience.
