I use a trauma-informed and attachment-based approach.
I deeply enjoy working with adults with ADHD, anxiety, and/or depression, and those who want to gain a deeper understanding of who they are. You may have the experience of feeling disconnected from others or difficulty knowing how you bring value to the world. If you have (or suspect you have) ADHD, you may feel overwhelmed from constantly trying to fit into a box that wasn't made for you. Together, we will explore your struggles, values, history, and strengths to cope with challenges and begin to feel more connected with yourself and those you care about.

As a therapist, I use Interpersonal Psychotherapy and attachment-based approaches in my work.
I approach therapy with a nonjudgmental perspective and a curiosity to understand the unique experiences leading clients to therapy. I believe a strong, genuine connection and collaboration between therapist and client can not only be an opportunity to improve coping skills and process through trauma and other difficulties, but also a catalyst to improving access to experiences of joy and contentment in life. I support clients with their therapy goals whether returning or starting for the first time. Therapy is often a brave journey of exploring the parts of ourselves that we might avoid… feeling scared, sad, angry, confused.

I typically follow attachment-based therapy models.
We all experience difficult times in life, and we all need connection through relationships. I believe therapy is one avenue to process and explore painful situations while working on improving relationships with partners, parents, children, etc. Our experiences impact how we communicate and perceive others’ messages.

Trained in EMDR, I am passionate about trauma-informed and attachment-based approaches in therapy to assist individuals in expanding their emotional intelligence and resilience, and, improving their relationships.
One of my personal mottos is “I am still learning” and I use the same perspective with clients as we work to address your needs in therapy together. Through the therapeutic process, I hope to empower you with greater understanding and compassion for yourself and for what you are learning from your experiences and choices. I am an advocate for educating the general public about mental health. I believe in the power of an individual to make personal and global change. I love helping individuals gain greater insight into thought, feeling and behavior patterns that you feel are no longer serving your best interests.

I don't know how to stop hurting. I don't know how to help him. I don't know how to get anything to change. Whether it is a problem you are experiencing with yourself, your child or another loved one many people have these thoughts. When the thoughts become overwhelming and impact your quality of life, it is time to change. Anais Nin wrote, "And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."

I use a holistic person-centered approach and believe each individual has the ability to find the answers within. I view therapy as a place to explore the different parts of self that contribute to the whole of a person. I love helping others find the places within that feel blocked or stuck and help them address what is needed to help clients move forward with renewed hope. I believe as one begins the healing journey they will become more in tune with mind, body, spirit connection and can tap into their unique strengths to create a life with meaning and happiness.

I’ll just highlight that I love being a therapist. I like to learn about clients, including challenges, strengths, vulnerabilities, worries, backgrounds, and passions. It never seems to fail that the more I get to know someone, the more I’m impressed. It doesn't matter if it's individuals, couples, or families, I love this work.

Do you find yourself struggling with self-defeating thoughts, sad and anxious feelings, and behaviors that don't seem to bring you much joy? Do you feel stuck? Well, this can happen to anyone, even therapists. (And it's important to work with a therapist who has done their own therapy.) There's no shame in getting help. It's a sign of being real with yourself and a sign of strength to reach out for help.

Life can be tough! Whether you feel like you are trying your hardest, or feel like things rarely go your way, we all go through multiple emotions on a daily basis. Sometimes, we feel we have the skills to navigate our circumstances, and other times we feel left in the dark; and that is totally normal! Whether you are going through something very difficult, or just need support making daily decisions, I understand, and am here for you! I truly feel that we all have resilience and that sometimes we need a reminder of how strong and capable we really are.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
