I use an attachment-based approach and have experience with a variety of trauma-based treatment modalities.
Hi! I am so glad you're here. If you're anything like me, you've probably had moments when you've felt inadequate, trapped by others' expectations, and out of touch with your own wants and needs. Whether you have responded by people-pleasing or rebelling, I am here to help you find your authentic, grounded self. Welcome to the work!

I have over 20 years experience working and growing with the continually developing mental health field. I believe in the immovable strength that all people have within them. Trauma, pain, and disheartenment are all part of the human experience. We are all connected by these experiences, and our abilities to overcome life’s greatest challenges. Therapy is not a "one size fits all" approach and I believe strongly in my ability to work with the diversity of mental health issues.

Trained in EMDR, I am passionate about trauma-informed and attachment-based approaches in therapy to assist individuals in expanding their emotional intelligence & resilience and improving relationships with oneself & others.
One of my personal mottos is “I am still learning” and I use the same perspective with clients as we work to address your needs in therapy together. Through the therapeutic process, I hope to empower you with greater understanding and compassion for yourself and for what you are learning from your experiences and choices rather than engaging with the inner critic who tends to shame and belittle. I believe in the power of an individual to make desired change in their life. I love helping individuals gain greater insight into thought, feeling and behavior patterns that you feel are no longer serving your best interests.

I typically follow attachment-based therapy models.
We all experience difficult times in life, and we all need connection through relationships. I believe therapy is one avenue to process and explore painful situations while working on improving relationships with partners, parents, children, etc. Our experiences impact how we communicate and perceive others’ messages.

I utilize a lot of experiential methods, as well as traditional talk therapy such as CBT, Mindfulness, and Attachment-based approaches.
Have you ever felt ashamed? Ever felt like others don’t understand you, but say they do? Those have been my own experiences and have led me to work with people in recovery and their families, survivors of domestic violence/abuse, minority communities and teens. I come from a multi-cultural family with an immigrant parent which has both enriched my life and created unique struggles for me. These experiences, however, have helped me empathize with a wide variety of people and situations. My goals are to support my clients as they navigate their struggles and find hope and strength within themselves.

Opening up and being vulnerable can be a challenge for all of us, especially as we begin to find ourselves. We all need someone in our corner cheering us on, who is also willing to shed light on our parts that may be holding us back. I am a clinician focused on embracing and celebrating who we are, while identifying areas for growth. There is no greater privilege than witnessing a client transform into someone who loves their authentic self. Adolescence and young adulthood are times for exploration and growth, I look forward to meeting each version of my clients.

There are moments in life when change comes swiftly catching us by surprise. We wake up and question who we are, wonder if we ever trusted ourselves, or ruminate on our every decision. Whether it comes by divorce, betrayal, death, a cataclysmic change in beliefs or other transitions in life, we are no longer the same after these events. We often discover we want more: more authenticity, more love, more alignment, more healing, more truth. Counseling can be a place to come home to yourself while you wade through the pain of change. I hope to offer you the empathy that can only come from lived experience rebuilding my own life.

Have you been to therapy before and felt like you weren't getting much from the experience? Maybe your therapist listened but didn't have much to say. If you're still dealing with the same issues and looking for a different approach, I may be able to help. You might not be sure why things aren't working in your life, where you're blocked in your relationships or personal growth. Taking the time to understand yourself in depth is an important first step. From there, we can work together to figure out what changes you need to make for yourself. This is your path to cultivating meaning in your life and experiencing more joy.

It’s my personal belief that relationships make the world go round – at least when they’re connected and supportive. Life is hard and relationships can feel very complicated sometimes. Others can say and do hurtful things and trust can be broken by the very people we care the most about. We internalize messages we learned at home or elsewhere and those impact how we interact and be in relationship with others.

Life is too short to surrender to letting adversity, trauma, bad relationships, grudges etc... control us; or be anxious/angry all the time. With over 12 years as a clinician, military veteran and retired law enforcement officer, I have been fortunate to be trusted in working with individuals, couples and families as they find answers, healing, understanding or resolve through painful and desperate situations. Empowering them to create resilience and healing in the rest of their story.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
