I am a licensed professional counselor with experience helping patients managing depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and borderline personality disorder.
Are you feeling unsure of what to do or where to go next? Stuck in habits that have kept you safe but are wishing there may be some other way to live? If you feel like you may want to find a little bit more to enjoy out of life and to have a space to find support in putting down the weight of your day-to-day, to help learn new skills to manage stress, regulate emotions, and to explore the possibilities of a life worth living then you’ve come to the right place. Whether it's a space to talk things through, or explore new ideas, I'd be more than happy to help where I can. Currently my most common availability is every other week.

My specialty is working with couples who have been impacted by substance abuse, along with those that have stopped believing in themselves. I believe in working with the whole family system focusing on healing the internal conflict that lies within the system. I do this by using several therapeutic approaches such as Internal Family Systems, Structural Family Therapy, Emotional Focused Couples Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I work with my clients on addressing attachment injuries, internal conflict, finding internal balance, and increasing individuals' confidence in themselves.

I see psychotherapy as a collaborative and exploratory process, in which your specific goals, needs, and wishes will determine the focus of our work and I will help you navigate through the impasses, challenges, and complexity that inevitably confront us as human beings. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to addressing mental health or for righting the ‘ship – our relationship to self and others in our life. That is why I tailor treatment to address the deeply personal concerns you are contending with. I have experience in psychodynamic, relational, CBT, and ACT. Oftentimes, a combination or integration of approaches works best.

Hello hello! I work either in-person w/nature in local parks or virtually via zoom! If we walk or sit together, we'll work following your lead with gentle nudges into the abyss (metaphorically, unless you enjoy muddy!), seeing through blinders, and remembering accomplishments. As for me? I'm a human reclaiming my humanity. I'm recovering from the dominating social order of straight, cis-white men steeped in racism, sexism, patriarchy, homophobia, colonialism, ableism and all the oppressions dreaming of an equitable and environmentally friendly society. (deeply & vaguely spiritual, not religious).

I strongly believe it takes great courage to take the initial steps in seeking help, and here you are. The most important aspect of any effective therapy process is the fit between the patient and therapist, and so I hope my profile helps you find that fit. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who has spent most of my life in Northcentral Wisconsin including receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UW-Stevens Point. I then received my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Wisconsin School of Professional Psychology in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and completed my clinical internship at Lakeview Specialty Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Waterford, Wisconsin.

While therapy can begin because of a symptom or problem – depression, insomnia, alcohol and substance use, or sexual dysfunction – symptoms are not the guiding stars of therapy. I practice therapy that is about making space for your whole self and making use of insight to understand your relationship to change. Whether our work is brief or long-lasting, we will work to discover and relate to the totality of who you are.

I have been working as a clinical therapist for more than 12 years, and previously worked in community social services with individuals experiencing homelessness and severe persistent mental illness. Over 15 years of work in the mental health field has taught me that a successful therapeutic relationship relies on building trust while seeking to understand my patients' points of view. In my previous therapy and social work roles, this belief has remained at the center of my work. As a therapist, I have extensive experience working with adolescents and adults with a variety of presenting concerns.

Serving Southern WI. Thank you for taking the time to view this webpage. Finding the right therapist can be a difficult task. I bring with me over 30 years of experience in my profession. I am a dually license substance abuse and mental health treatment provider. Being dually licensed means that I have credentials to treatment individuals struggling with either alcohol and substance abuse or mental health issues. As is often the case, being dually credentialed also means I am licensed to treat clients suffering from combination of both substance abuse and mental health issues.

Winter blues? Bored and have more free time and don't know what to do? Life transitions? Going to college? Low mood? Anxiety and worry? Seasonal depression kicking in? I see adults individually who have struggled with anxiety, depression, trauma/ stress related events in their life. I can offer Tele-health options so you can feel safe going through the therapeutic process. My treatment approach is a lot more more person-centered. It can take some time to build trust within the therapeutic relationship.

I am a psychoanalyst and licensed psychologist with a practice focused on helping people live fuller, happier lives. Oftentimes, people may look fine on the outside, yet feel longstanding dissatisfaction and unhappiness on the inside. Many therapies and therapists take a directive approach to treatment, focused on telling a person how to reduce their symptoms of distress through specific recommendations. However, many people seek my services when their symptoms return after completing such treatments, as they continue to find themselves in unhappy patterns and emotional unrest.

Borderline Personality (BPD) Therapists

What is the most successful approach to treating borderline personality disorder?

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is considered the gold standard of treatment for borderline personality disorder. An evidence-based treatment, it addresses the extreme emotional reactivity, the relationship difficulties, and the acts of self-harm that create so much distress for BPD patients. DBT is a comprehensive program that includes both regular individual psychotherapy sessions and weekly group sessions of skills training.

What happens in treatment of borderline personality disorder?

Treatment typically consists of weekly individual therapy sessions that last an hour and group skill-focused instructional sessions that may last up to two hours. Patients are typically given homework “assignments” in which they are asked to practice in their daily life the skills they acquire in therapy. Patients also keep a diary tracking their emotions and impulses as a way to know which situations are most problematic and to help them gain control over their own behavior. Difficult situations and feelings are typically reviewed in therapy sessions and more constructive solutions found.

What kinds of problems does BPD treatment help with?

DBT was initially developed to dampen the self-destructive impulses of chronically suicidal patients. It is now the treatment of choice for borderline personality disorder, a serious condition marked by extreme emotional reactivity, relationship instability, and self-injurious behaviors. Treatment of BPD helps patients tolerate the flux of emotions without acting on them, often with a specific focus on tolerating negative emotions. DBT addresses the core problems of BPD—fear of abandonment, low self-esteem, and impulsivity.

What is the goal of treatment in borderline personality disorder?

The goal of treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) is to relieve the extreme emotional distress that patients experience—to curb their emotional reactivity, to minimize their inclination to self-harm, and to reduce their impulsivity. Toward these ends, patients are not only taught an array of new coping skills and techniques for emotional regulation, they are given opportunities to practice them. Another major goal of treatment is interpersonal effectiveness; patients learn and problem-solve ways to effectively communicate in relationships, especially how to ask for what they need as a way to minimize hurt feelings.
