Leila is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia and is a Registered and Board Certified Art Therapist. She has worked with all ages, ranging from adults and geriatrics with mood disorders, trauma, psychosis, and dementia to children with severe trauma and attachment disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Leila has five years of inpatient psychiatric experience with both children and adults, and has been able to use her knowledge to reach a variety of needs. Her previous work experiences, training, and skills allow her to see people as unique individuals and to meet them wherever they are in the moment to best serve her clients. Leila utilizes her art therapy skills to assess, diagnose, and treat, while highlighting strengths and resiliency. Art therapy can be an alternate and beneficial approach, especially with those who may have trouble verbally expressing their internal world. The art can become a way to externalize, providing a safe and cathartic modality to express oneself, regardless of any artistic talent.
I help clients uncover obstacles that are preventing them from living the full and authentic life that they desire. Oftentimes, unresolved anger causes depression and unresolved fear causes anxiety. Let's get to the root and process those feelings so you can move forward in freedom. In therapy with me, you will experience a safe and non-judgmental environment to process past trauma and hurts. You will go at your own pace and learn techniques to help manage feelings of anxiety as you work through past hurts.
I always gravitated to jobs that entailed helping people: Teacher; Red Cross; Covenant House. I had also pursued seminary studies and was briefly on track to becoming a clergyman. Entry into grad school to study Counseling seemed the next natural step in my career path. But there was a more profound reason I became a Professional Helper, and that is my own lifelong struggles with anxiety and depression.
Does your child seem to worry too much? Do feelings get in their way of trying new things and enjoying life? I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and young adults with a variety of concerns. These include anxiety, phobias, OCD, ADHD, emotional regulation difficulties, peer issues, and life transitions. I also provide Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) which is a highly-effective, short-term, evidence-based treatment for children ages 2.5-7 with behavioral challenges. Research suggests that PCIT is even more effective when delivered via telehealth.
Are you feeling stuck or struggling to make changes in your life but can’t quite figure out how to get there? I offer tools to help people learn to decode their emotions so that they no longer need a therapist guiding them, but rather they can address life's challenges with greater confidence. My treatment focuses on helping people accept the past, and make concrete changes in their lives that lead to a greater sense of peace and satisfaction. My aim is to create a warm, collaborative, and accepting environment where you can feel comfortable expressing your emotions.

I'm licensed in Virginia and Telehealth–certified in Florida as a psychotherapist. I work with adult men & women, veterans & their families, active military members, and seniors facing the challenges of aging. I changed careers at age 55 after a 40 year career in radio station management and programming, earning an Advanced Standing Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work from Fordham University. My clients like my eclectic, non-judgmental way of helping them manage their unique behavioral issues, including anxiety, depression, partnering, and past trauma triggers.
My approach to therapy is holistic. I incorporate mind, body, and spirit into treatment using natural interventions according to your ethnic and cultural background. As an expressive therapist I incorporate art, play, sand, dreams, yoga, poetry, meditation, and mindfulness into the therapy. The idea behind these modalities is to help you access strengths from within to help you on your therapeutic journey!

The hardest part of our journey begins with the first step. Looking at your current circumstances you may understand that change needs to take place, but just lost at where to begin—I’ve been there. There comes a time in each of our lives where we can reflect. This reflection upon our lives is often never easy. It is like an arduous journey filled with hills and valleys. Sometimes this requires letting go of pent up emotions and ingrained behaviors which may have served a purpose for some time but no longer serve us. My passion is to help individuals through this time teaching them the tools needed to navigate their new paths.
NOTE:. As of Jan. 1, 2022, my practice is closed to new clients. Past clients should feel free to contact me to see if I have availability to see them but should be aware that I currently do only televideo sessions. Making the decision to seek therapy is an important one, and it generally stirs up a mixture of feelings, including both excitement and anxiety. I focus on helping my clients feel safe in sharing their difficulties and goals and in assessing their needs. I work to help clients to find meaning and strategies to move past old patterns to live well in the present.
Welcome! If you are looking for a new way of living because your way no longer serves you, you have come to the right place. I have a passion for working with those struggling with a substance abuse addiction. In addition, I work with clients who are lacking the coping skills necessary to battle their anxiety and depression. If you choose to seek my services, we will work together to create more sustainable ways of coping, and thus, a happier life.
