I enjoy working with clients who are internally motivated for change. Clients who want to make changes, and are willing to put in the work are the best! I am client centered and solution focused. This allows the client to set their own goals and work at their pace. Often times when clients want to make life changes, or process trauma, they need guide rails and support. I have extensive experience and interest in working with individuals looking to recover from the effects of growing up in alcoholic or other dysfunctional households. Adversity and traumatic experiences are common. Strategies to reduce the impacts can include numbing, detaching, becoming depressed/hopeless, compulsiveness (i.e. acting without thinking), over-functioning, over-responsibility, avoidance, isolation, perfectionism, procrastination, hypervigilance and many others. All of which are protective and helpful when needed but often lead to inner conflict and unintended blowback including feelings of shame and worthlessness.

Hi there, I’m Stephanie! A little bit about me is that I have approximately five years of clinical experience. In 2016, I graduated from Shippensburg University with my bachelors degree in psychology and then continued at Shippensburg University to receive my masters degree in clinical mental health counseling graduating in 2018. I have worked in and with several different treatment modalities and settings with different populations to include inpatient behavioral health treatment with teens and adults in a psychiatric inpatient setting, inpatient and outpatient substance abuse counseling, and prison work.

I welcome someone who is ready to make life changes and would like assistance to take them from where they are to where they want to be. A willingness to work with a supportive, experienced (since 1979) social worker/therapist who uses dynamic and interactive approaches, knowing that I am the guide, and you are the one who knows yourself best and that healing comes from within. Unfortunately, I currently am NOT accepting new clients. I specialize in attachment based relationship challenges and complex trauma. In addition to those specialities, I support clients who are challenged with depression, anxiety, general stress, and the emotional aspects of weight loss and challenges associated with weight loss. I encourage those I work with to think about all areas of wellness including: social, emotional, mental, & physical well-being. I believe it is necessary first to heal from harm done in the past and have an open mind for the future.

It is my belief that despite increasing awareness into the field of psychology and counseling, there still exists a pervasive stigma that can keep us from seeking the help we need. As a Counseling Psychologist I am searching to find health or “ego strength“ in a person. People are capable of having internal positive and negative aspects in play at all times. Working from a psychodynamic model to see the whole clinical picture, I believe insight is crucial but it doesn’t guarantee behavior change. To that end I work from a cognitive and behavioral model to build strength.

Throughout life's journey, there are many paths, some more challenging than others. As we learn to make healthy habits part on of our lives, we become happier and more fulfilled in other areas.
