***Unable to take new clients at this time***** Your story, your pain, and your collection of struggles are unique to you. There is no one-size fits all approach to therapy. We'll spend time understanding exactly what you are experiencing - and why - so when you start making changes that improve your life, they will stick. My job is to give my clients the quickest relief possible which means I provide immediate feedback, tasks to focus on between sessions, and tools to learn coping skills.
Licensed in both PA and DE, my approach is integrative, intersectional, developmental, and contextual with a belief in the value of connection and the power of possibility. I understand that we are heavily shaped by our relationships, family experiences, and positionality in the world with regard to race, culture, class, gender identity, sexuality, etc. My practice is relationship and sexual intimacy focused, and I've deepened my lens to include training in the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy, in addition to past experience with Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, and IMAGO.
Therapy to me is a gift we give ourselves; an invaluable tool that enables us to enhance and make sense of our lives. It can help us find comfort and clarity during times of uncertainty. I believe in human beings' innate ability to create, know and love our lives and ourselves. Together my clients and I forge a relationship outside the context of their family or loved ones for the purpose of support, exploration and self-understanding. Our vehicle is creativity that helps us stay open to possibility in the face of even the most challenging of circumstances.
I specialize in the psycho-educational assessment of children and adolescents, and the diagnosis and educational intervention of learning disabilities, cognitive and memory impairments, information processing weakness, autistic spectrum disorders, disruptive behavior disorders, emotional disturbance, AD/HD, and impairments in executive functioning.
Today we are faced with so many distractions that ask us to turn away from ourselves and our relationships. It’s hard to resist. Yet this leaves us feeling more stuck, isolated, angry, distressed, and injured. And I believe this makes therapy, and spaces like it, more important than ever; spaces in which we slow down to engage honestly with our past, present, and future. I see myself as your partner in this process, and above all am committed to being respectful, curious, genuine, appropriately challenging, and fully present with my clients.
CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. Do you find yourself stressed out and overwhelmed, wishing you could put the puzzle pieces of your life together? I love helping people create a life for themselves that satisfies their individual needs and desires. I enjoy working with a variety of ages and backgrounds, and primarily work with late teens/college-age students, young adults, parents, and artists/creatives who have anxiety, depression, or are feeling overwhelmed by stressors.
The clinicians at OCD Spectrum specialize in exposure and response prevention or, ERP. It is the most effective type of talk therapy for the treatment of OCD and phobias. Simply put, ERP mainly involves facing your fears without retreating. We treat children and adults and offer video-therapy for those in remote areas of PA. We also provide supervision for doctoral-level psychology students and post-docs on the proper treatment of OCD and regularly present at the IOCDF annual conferences. We also offer psychiatry/medication services with our psychiatrist, Joshua Riley-Graham, MD.
My name is Akirah Wyatt, LCSW, and I am best at helping clients conquer anxiety-related conditions such as OCD, phobias, and PTSD. I am trained in evidence-based treatments that specifically tackle these issues such as exposure and response prevention (ERP), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and DBT “prolonged exposure” (DBT-PE). The skills I will teach you and practice with you have been rigorously studied and shown to be effective within a brief amount of time. This will allow you to feel better, perhaps sooner than you ever thought possible.
As a therapist, my goal is to provide a safe environmnet for you to express your feelings and help you gain perspective with challenges you may be facing. I work with female clients, 13yrs and older. As women, young and old, we are multitaskers, we take care of others while neglecting ourselves. Self-care--self-love is foreign. Many self-medicate with food, alcohol, pills, shopping, social media, vaping, relationships, the list can go on. This creates a cycle of shame, remorse, and regret. We realize... I am not happy-how come? The women I work with are trying to answer that question. They are looking for someone else or something else to make them happy. An external fix/distraction to avoid feeling upset. And yet the outcome continues to be is anxiety, depression, substance abuse
I am a nationally certified counselor who has experience working in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I enjoy working with individuals to help them reach their personal goals in a safe non-judgmental setting. My eclectic approach to deliver services includes cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and person centered therapy. I believe therapy is a service that should be tailored to each individuals needs to promote personal growth. In my spare time I enjoy hiking, camping, traveling, and finding where I am going to get my next cup of coffee!
I’ve always been drawn to helping people understand their relationship to their struggle. It gives me energy to watch people understand their deeper emotions and use that understanding to create their own solutions. I’m inspired when people are able to understand themselves in a way that creates positive change for them.
My clients are adults looking for help with depression, anxiety and relationship issues. Some wish to have more freedom and joy, and less fear in life. I'm trained in psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and Focusing approaches. I also use Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) which helps clients reach and articulate their helpful, deeper emotions (like healthy anger & grief), to transform unhelpful emotions (like fear & shame) carried over from the past.
