When faced with life's challenges and transitions, we experience a mixture of emotions, ranging from overwhelmed to deep sadness and anxiety. At times like these, it can be especially hard to find the space to pause, breathe fully, and stay connected with what truly matters in one's life. My approach is to offer a safe , compassionate space to stay centered through the various storms of life and the emotions they bring. Using evidence-based practices, I work to bring awareness to the values you hold dear and to stay grounded in those values while moving forward in life.

If you are struggling with relationships in your life, maybe with your intimate partner/spouse or family members, or perhaps at work, you might feel the need to talk with someone. I am a psychotherapist practicing in Oregon and Washington, and in Europe. I enjoy assisting people in the exploration of new ways to manage challenges that invariably arise in life. If you struggle with anxiety or depression, or if you are experiencing activation related to past traumatic events I can help you learn new ways of relating to yourself and to others.

Is anxiety, depression, or chronic stress preventing you from feeling present in your life? Have you done a lot of therapy but continue to find yourself feeling stuck, hopeless, or full of dread? Are you struggling with chronic health conditions that don't seem to respond to traditional interventions or can't be explained by conventional medicine? My time as a healing professional has reinforced the awareness that trauma and chronic stress are stored not just in our minds, but in our bodies and nervous systems as well. That is often why talk therapy is just not enough.

I provide a focused and understanding space that supports you opening to your own aliveness and your voice. I bring my full attention, my honest feeling, and I will share what I see will help you. Often our first response to misfortune is to fight against it. While we may have skillful ways of doing this, our efforts nevertheless become futile and disconnect us from others. Our energy gets bound up, we get stuck in elusive cycles. However, our truths are complex and deserve to be recognized.

I offer an attachment based holistic approach to therapy, seeing you as a complex whole person. I believe in the Daoist saying about the human life: “There are ten thousand joys and ten thousand sorrows.” I believe this to be a profound and inescapable truth. Therapy offers an opportunity for support through the sorrows and a celebration of the joys.

My clients often come into therapy feeling some version of stuck: whether in a relationship, a perspective, or a pattern of behavior. My psychodynamic training has taught me it’s important to understand why this stuckness is happening, but how we manage our thoughts and feelings is equally important, so I like to use a blend of therapeutic modalities to tailor my approach to each client. I also love working with new and expecting fathers. It's common to experience a complex flood of emotions including anger, grief, and fear, and I find there is often great need for support during this significant phase of life transition.

Hello! I am currently accepting new clients, but I do have a wait-list. My goal is to provide a space for you to develop and work toward goals that feel relevant and doable. We can work on developing healthy coping strategies for current stressors, increasing understanding around past experiences, as well as increasing awareness in the present. I believe therapy should be productive and enlightening, but I also know it's uncomfortable and vulnerable. I will ask for your honest feedback throughout the therapy process so that I can adjust my approach as needed.

I believe that human connection begins with exploring our own vulnerabilities. My human experience has led me to process moments of disappointment and pain. I experienced challenges and I experienced successes. Everything from difficult breakups to investing in healthy relationships. I continue to learn and transform from all of this because life has its ebbs and flows which I use to find inner balance.

You’ve been hit hard by life. Your emotions are overwhelming at times. You’re frozen by indecision and self-doubt. You’re doing well in your career but you’re not being noticed or promoted because you can’t seem to make relationships work. You have trouble with trust and intimacy. You experience your world through the lens of negativity, hopelessness and pessimism. You know you’re childhood history of abuse, of being bullied or shamed has created the high degrees of anxiety you feel around people and fear of being judged. You know you need therapy though you know talking about your past has never helped, and yet you keep trying.

Whether this is your first time seeking therapy or you are coming back to the work, finding a therapist you connect with is key. When you feel the right fit, it is amazing what is possible on the healing journey. Problems start to feel more manageable and creativity opens up, allowing you to lean in and work toward the change you want to see happen. I deeply value both humor and seriousness to the therapeutic relationship. I believe that we are all wired to move toward health; sometimes we need help and guidance along the way to clear out past trauma, anxiety, relationship problems, depression.

Are you seeking to improve communication and connection with your partner? I know you're doing the best you can with the relationship tools you have. Some of those tools may not be effective; maybe your parents didn't model a great relationship, or your perceptions and judgments of your partner are flawed, or it's just hard to understand what they want. This leads to feeling overwhelmed and discouraged. What you want is relief from turmoil and strength to overcome challenges to gain a better understanding of yourself and your partner. I am here to provide a safe environment for you to say the hard things and hear your needs.

I have had the privilege of witnessing people undergo the slow, extremely subtle and remarkable journey of healing and self-transformation. This process of psychological growth is astoundingly complex, multilayered, circular and even mysteriously numinous in its unfolding. My philosophy as a therapist is primarily on core transformation rather than merely symptom management and needless to say, I strongly believe in the centrality of the therapeutic relationship as a significant healing agent. Moving towards our wholeness necessitates the courage to first move into the wounded parts that we all have as members of the human species.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Portland?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
