It takes great courage to live out our authentic selves, find wisdom underneath our emotions, and repair and transform relationships that are close to heart. I admire your strength and humanity. As a counseling psychologist, researcher, and professor, I received doctoral and postdoctoral training in individual, couple, family, and group psychotherapy. As an immigrant, I witness life and culture in its nuances and complexities. I believe (and research shows) that, built upon a safe and trusting relationship, therapy can effectively support people to find clarity, authenticity, and resolution through the richness of our life journeys.

I have a passion for holistic health and wellness. I navigate different approaches to sessions with clients by providing the proper education around the scope of mental, physical, and social well-being. I am a firm believer that as a whole, an individual includes the mind, body, and soul, and the key to a successful therapeutic experience is to work on healing all three.

As a warm and attentive therapist, I work hard to listen, understand and guide my patients through the obstacles that prevent them from reaching their life's goals & from feeling more fulfilled. I encourage them to become curious about their thoughts, feelings & behaviors where shame has often kept them stuck. I provide therapy for adolescents & adults with a wide range of problems related to current life changes or longstanding issues. I will also work together with my patients to determine the underlying causes of emotional issues in order to help them cope more effectively with similar problems as they arise in the future.

I absolutely love working with young folks who feel stuck, anxious, or alone in dealing with the stressors that life brings. I am a relational therapist that holds space for teens and young adults to build connection, develop mindfulness, and explore what values will be motivating for their life choices. This work is rooted in prioritizing self-acceptance: one of the best gifts we can give ourselves! Additionally, I collaborate with clients as they gain freedom to get better at feeling emotions and communicating them to others, as a way to navigate symptoms of anxiety, depression, or trauma.

As your therapist, one of my priorities is to walk alongside you as you grow into the most integrated version of yourself, embracing your autonomy and strengths. It can be difficult to balance your sense of internal safety and the external commotion of the world. A sense of disillusionment occurs when our external wants do not meet our internal needs. I focus on your concept of Self as it relates to emotional disturbance, fragmentation of the self, maladaptive thinking patterns, and dissociation. My aim is to work with you to embrace ad overcome challenges endured throughout the lifespan and to help you find alignment within.

I recognize and understand that anxiety, depression, trauma, and the compounding effects of those experiences can cause a sense of helplessness. Through my own human experience as well as serving in this setting. I recognize issues of ambiguity and recovery from problems that involve the mind, emotions, and spirit are long and arduous. The important piece is to keep these things in front of us as we relearn healthy skills to engage fully with life. We also must hold on to the understanding that we are solely responsible for our overall well-being.

Are you a young person struggling to make decisions for yourself? Do you feel lost? Does the thought of adulthood overwhelm you? To unburden yourself of this pressure, it may help to talk to someone. Therapy is a space for you to open up without the fear of shame or rejection. I operate my practice based on three tenets: 1) I will listen to you 2) I will provide you with evidence-based tools for life 3) I will ask for your feedback. Together, we will look for patterns that no longer serve you, unpack situations that require resolution, and identify the emotions that you experience throughout this process.

People tend to develop certain ways of thinking about themselves, their relationships, and the world around them. It can be hard to think and operate outside of these tendencies, which is why particular problems are often part of a bigger pattern built over the course of one’s lifetime. My work is focused on helping you learn to listen to yourself in new and expanded ways.

I feel every person deserves to have a space where they feel heard and supported. Therapy should be a space where you feel safe to explore, laugh, cry, and reach those goals you have been thinking about. I will work to provide a space that you can feel safe and together we can accomplish this goal. I believe therapy is about exploration and understanding. Sometimes we go through life not feeling connected to ourselves, those around us, or activities that once made us happy. We can use this space to discover how to bring fulfillment back into your life, as it is possible!

Whether you are searching for meaning, clarity, increased fulfillment, or relief from specific symptoms or stressors, I consider it a privilege to support those I work with in their processes of healing and growth. Above all, I privilege authenticity, transparency, and a sense of agency in the therapeutic process. I am deeply passionate about challenging commonly held assumptions about therapy, namely that it involves a relationship between a “sick” person and a “healthy” one.

My passion for counseling began early in my life, and I always had a curiosity to better understand the intricacies of human behavior and emotions. While I began my journey as an elementary school teacher, I soon realized I wanted to assist in helping people heal and find happiness. I am a neurodivergent-affirming counselor specializing in ADHD treatment. Drawing from my personal experiences and professional expertise, I provide a safe and understanding space where individuals can explore their unique neurodivergent identities and challenges.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Chicago?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
