My practice focuses on women and couples.
It's a privilege to assist individuals and couples who want to make their lives better. I love my work, even more than when I received my initial social work degree. Returning to school later to get my doctorate and teach, I always maintained a private practice. In a nutshell, my philosophy is that I partner with my clients to figure out what they can do to improve their relationships and sense of well-being. Though I have a special interest in infertility and incest survivorship, I work with individuals and couples who struggle with any number of life challenges.

I am a researcher of sexual trauma in the Black community with a current emphasis of working with Black women with a history of sexual trauma who are looking to create a more fulfilling relationship with themselves, their bodies, and with others and are ready to lean in and do the work. I am looking to support motivated women as a "Clinical Companion" on their journey to wellness while guiding them through a framework I created specifically for this demographic, a therapeutic modality titled Self-Reconciliation Therapy (SRT).

I maintain a general practice where I see a wide diversity of men and women for issues including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and identity.
Life can be challenging. I believe psychotherapy with a therapist who is a good match can help one more successfully navigate those challenges. I work collaboratively with my clients. I aim to create a nonjudgmental and supportive environment to explore difficult issues together -- to better understand what one is currently facing, to help manage those difficulties, and to ultimately make life more rewarding and meaningful.

As a first generation Asian American woman , I believe in the importance of cultural humility, anti-racism, and gender affirmation in my practice, paying attention to power structures and systems that affect us all. I view clients as equals, where social hierarchies and identities are addressed to practice true cultural humility and understanding. Using the power of art as a tool of justice and healing to create opportunities for inclusion and human connection, each individual’s human potential will be supported, regardless of identity or ability.

As a woman stepping into adulthood, you find yourself afraid to face the unknown. Instead of feeling excitement about what's to come, you're paralyzed by insecurities--that deep down you might be a fraud, that you don’t measure up, that you’re never going to be “good enough”. These thoughts have seeped into your career, your education, your relationships. You feel isolated and hopeless, uncertain of what to do next. That voice of doubt inside of you won't shut up and it's holding you back from finding your purpose. I’m here to tell you that just because that voice is LOUD, does not mean that what it’s telling you is TRUE.

Furthermore, I enjoy working with clients on issues related to sexuality and female empowerment.
My work is rooted in the strengths based perspective, which helps my clients to identify and bolster their current resources, positive personality traits, and support networks. You are my ideal client if you are suffering emotionally and/or mentally and seek to heal your relationship with yourself to call more harmony and balance into your daily life. My ideal client needs my nurturing and the safe space I will hold in our sessions for self exploration and healing through feeling, and learning to tolerate, uncomfortable emotions. My ideal client finds playfulness in our sessions, and is motivated to learn the language of emotions.

Transitions in life such as birth, illness, death, divorce, aging, or career change, can be exciting, but also, devastating, confusing or scary. There can be a variety of reactions to these challenges, and at times having to make choices can leave you feeling stuck or depressed, and unable to make a decision. My passion is guiding women through these life transitions with compassion, empathy, and support. As a Clinical Social Worker, I have learned how important it is to get to the heart of an issue and work toward resolutions, skills I learned working with patients experiencing life altering illnesses.

My practice prioritizes women . My therapeutic approach is collaborative and relational from both a trauma informed and feminist orientation. I believe that we are all resilient, each of us has unique strengths. I work with my clients to build on these strengths, increase their insight, and develop the trust needed to achieve their goals. I do this by providing a safe space in which you may process your experiences, express your feelings, challenge unhealthy relationship patterns, and develop self-awareness.

I specialize in perinatal mental health and have experience in supporting women as they navigate the complexities of high-risk pregnancies, unexpected pregnancies, birth trauma, perinatal loss, and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
I am client-focused when working with individuals and families, providing space for them to openly discuss the impact family building has had on their mental health. I encourage clients to actively participate in their treatment and collaboratively work with each client to identify their therapeutic goals. I use a mixture of modalities, from cognitive-behavioral techniques to holistic and integrative approaches. I always strive to bring culture and identity into the therapy space as I believe one’s lived experiences are often shaped by their personal identities.

I help women and men who are hurting, angry, and struggling to find their way through life's challenges, to create real and lasting change. Maybe you find it difficult to reach out for help or feel you should be able to manage your own problems, but I know it can be frustrating and demoralizing when real change remains elusive. I will work with you to more fully understand the roots of the issues at hand and collaboratively find resolution and greater freedom.

How can I find a therapist in Chicago?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
