They say life is full of highs and lows, but lately you have been experiencing more lows. Life transitions, depression, or anxiety have caused a wedge between you and your peace. Activities that used to excite you no longer matter. You are just floating through life with no purpose or clarity; ultimately negatively affecting your self-esteem and confidence. Whenever you try to get on track and build the life you want, life or your inner thoughts seem to take you two steps backwards. You could give up but the fighter in you will not. You want to build on that determination but don't know where to start? Something has to change.

Have you wondered, where do I turn for support for anxiety, depression, my past hurts, and trauma? I’ve poured my life into others, neglected myself, and now feel completely lost. I feel invisible, misunderstood, and tired of being controlled by others. I fear making mistakes and am afraid to say ‘no’ because I might be abandoned. I think more about who I 'should' be than who I want to be. The weight of carrying the pain and shame is unbearable. Please know that you are important, and the fact that you are here says you’ve recognized the need to prioritize yourself. I’m so glad you’re here.

Sometimes, we feel stuck in negative personal/relational patterns; are reeling from a loss, hurt or other traumatic events; are navigating transitions/changes and desiring clarity and direction; are grappling with existential/spiritual questions; struggle with anxiety, depression, anger, and/or addiction; or, are struggling with family issues including cultural conflicts and abuse. I collaborate with individuals, couples, and families to discover positive and adaptive ways to move forward that are uniquely empowering and authentic to who they are.

Do you struggle with feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Do you put your needs at the bottom of the to-do list? Do you wonder if life should feel somehow better? Happier? Now more than ever, as the world moves faster, it has become increasingly difficult to make meaningful connections, to live with purpose and to make sense of our experiences. Pushing away your needs and not taking the time to connect with yourself and understand who you are–who you want to be, can lead to long-term issues for your mind and body. I believe it shouldn’t be so hard to live a better life.

Connecting with the right therapist can be challenging. As a clinician, I strive to empower clients to make meaningful changes, while also helping them hold self-compassion in the process. I ground my work in evidence-based therapies, and use an in-depth case conceptualization to understand how problems are getting in the way of the life my clients want to lead.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Therapists

How does cognitive processing therapy work?

A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.

What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?

Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.

How long does cognitive processing therapy last?

CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.

How effective is cognitive processing therapy?

A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
