These are some interesting times we are living in. Unfortunately interesting times tend to also be challenging or anxiety provoking. Right now is a great time to reach out for some additional support and connection. I am offering all sessions via secure telehealth to comply with all social distancing and to keep us all safe.
Hi there! Empowered Choice Psychotherapy (ECP) began from my desire to work with individuals who are seeking personal growth, strength, self-assurance, grounding, healing and most importantly, peace of mind. My therapeutic style is to assist the person in examining their story and present symptoms. I utilize an eclectic treatment approach. Through client empowerment, my aim is to guide my clientele to let go of what is no longer serving them and develop ways of meeting their own unique emotional needs.
Too often do I see people approach therapy as a “last resort” rather than for what it could be: a tool to improve anyone’s quality of life no matter what challenges they are currently facing. Throughout my experience, I have found that therapy is a place to laugh and celebrate as much as it is a place to cry and grieve. My goal is to approach each session with curiosity rather than judgement so that you can feel comfortable being your authentic self. I have worked with clients from many racial/ethnic, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds and believe in making your personal values and traditions an integral part of the process.
I am a State Licensed Marriage Family Child Therapist with 26+ years experience in guiding Individuals, couples & children to develop the skills and understanding needed to find the loving connections we all long for.
In this time of need, finding a therapist is no small undertaking. We all hope to find a therapist with the needed clinical understanding and skills; but finding a therapist who actually authentically cares is much more difficult. I assure you that as your personal therapist; I care deeply about you and the outcome of your life situation.
"Your trust will not be misplaced."

Feeling alone, isolated or misunderstood? Have you been feeling more frustrated and on edge, trying to manage the stress and emotions you deal in your day to day life? Like your physical health, your mental health too is just as important. I work with individuals struggling with a variety of life challenges; ranging from depression, anxiety, chemical dependency (abstinence and harm reduction), co-occurring disorders, co-dependency, domestic violence, grief and loss, anger management, and stress.
We offer counseling to married and unmarried couples, families, teens, and adults who are struggling with relationship issues. If you are experiencing problems with communication, trust, intimacy, anxiety, or depression, we are here to help.
The counseling process can be difficult. My work experience in helping professions, coupled with my education, and the experience I have gained through the military, have prepared me to connect authentically. Finding meaning and purpose in our lives can be difficult to navigate alone. Having someone to help process the anxiety that life brings can be life-changing. I am passionate about empowering clients to recognize their strengths amidst their life transitions to increase their sense of efficacy and align their actions with their beliefs and dreams.
My approach is to meet the people where they are and provide a safe space so that healing can happen. I work with the client to establish their goals and help them find ways to reach those desired goals. I have many years of experience working with first responders and am culturally sensitive. I understand the unique needs of first responders as it relates to trauma, crisis, PTSD, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, job-related stress, job security, suicide, etc. I know how difficult it can be to reach out to a therapist and you want to be sure that they understand your work and life culture.
Sometimes life can bring challenges that make people feel overwhelmed and hopeless. I believe that individuals seeking out therapy have already shown a great deal of strength and courage and are on their way to overcoming these challenges. I strive to provide a comfortable, safe, and peaceful environment to help you make positive changes. I believe that therapy is a very individualistic experience and requires understanding, empathy, and flexibility.
I frequently work with individuals and families with a wide variety of challenges. Some clients are simply looking to find a place that they can take a deep breath and be in a place to address things that they want to work on. While others have severe symptoms or complex issues that are frightening and overwhelming where they need help sorting out thoughts and feelings while learning how to manage and navigate the challenges. Each client is unique and so are their experiences so my goal is to tailor treatment to best benefit my clients.
I have experience working with children, individuals, couples and families on a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, mood disorders, parenting challenges, family and relationship issues, and various life changes and adjustment issues. I identify as Afro-Latina. I enjoy working with clients of all backgrounds, cultures and life experiences. My therapeutic approach is an integrative one where I pull from various therapy models and tailor to meet your unique needs and my style is open, genuine, welcoming and interactive.
Welcome! Working with adults, young adults and teens transitioning into the world of adulthood is truly my passion. I enjoy working with and walking alongside individuals as they heal from trauma or wounds in their life, navigate depression, anxiety, loss, transitions in life or parenting challenging. We often experience hurts and difficulties in our lives through relationships and it is through relationship that we are able to heal. I find it a pleasure to be able to provide that relationship for my clients to begin to heal, grow and flourish as they walk through the process of therapy.
