Therapy is a space that is both engaging and supportive. I aim to create a welcoming environment where you can access therapy as a means to enrich your life. I come from a unique cultural background, being half Salvadorian and half Filipino, a first-generation child of immigrant parents, and part of the LGBTQ+ community. These diverse cultural influences have significantly shaped my personal identity and professional development. This journey of straddling multiple cultures has taught me the richness of our intersectional identities and how we all engage with the world through a complex web of lived experiences.

I’m a PsyPact-licensed psychologist, which means I can work with folks in California, Oregon, Washington, and 41 other states. This work is personal to me. I grew up feeling out of place a lot of the time — not really knowing how to make sense of what I was feeling or how to show up in the world. I know how isolating it can be to wonder if something’s wrong with you. That’s part of what drives me to help people feel more understood, connected, and at home in themselves..

Many people come to therapy feeling disconnected from themselves, caught in patterns they can’t fully explain. You may appear outwardly successful, yet feel alienated, frustrated, or disoriented in ways that resist easy solutions. Therapy offers a space to speak freely, even when what needs to be said isn’t yet fully known. While the immediate aim is relief from painful symptoms, the work also makes room to explore the deeper conflicts underlying those struggles. Through this process, meanings can shift, opening new possibilities in how you relate to yourself, others, and what you want.

Hi! My name is Melissa and I was born and raised in the Bay Area by parents who were immigrants from Vietnam. My greatest strength I can share with you is my understanding of the importance of cultural identities and navigating against systems that may clash with your values. I believe change happens when we are ready to step out of our comfort zones and in my approach, I aim to balance challenge with compassion. I’ve spent the last 5 years guiding clients towards healing, acceptance, and self-compassion while they battled with challenges such as anxiety, depression, interpersonal difficulties, and/or trauma.

I approach my work with empathy, validation, and humor. One of my areas of expertise include working with adolescents (12+ years old). In my 17 years of experience working in high schools in NYC and the SF Bay Area, I have learned a thing or two about helping youth navigate challenging situations.
My work with adults includes helping parents as well as those looking for support in relationships, work, and identity.
I spent the majority of my formative years living abroad, attending International School. I relate to the experiences of a “Third Culture Kid”, and can support in transitions to and from the International community.

Sometimes intellectual understanding isn’t enough to deeply shift the patterns that cause us pain and keep us stuck in life. I view therapy as an experiential, relational process that engages the whole self. My work is based in somatic practice, which means that we use embodied experience as a gateway to our emotional life and an anchor to the present moment. As a long time meditator, I value training the mind and cultivating the ability to intentionally direct attention. At the same time, there are things we can’t do alone. There is a level of healing that can only happen in a relationship.

Therapy has proven its effectiveness in addressing traumatic, disruptive life events, but it is also for those of us who are struggling to get to work in the morning because we are miserable and don’t know why, or those of us who despite adoring our partners cannot seem to get along with them lately.
