I specialize in working with individual, relational, and sexual issues from a sociocultural and attachment-based lens.
I believe that engaging in therapy is a radically courageous act. Exploring and sharing our stories can be terrifying, and doing so may go against the messages you internalized and survival strategies you adopted. Regardless of what brings you in, therapy can help you feel more fulfilled and more richly connected with yourself and others. I know that living in this time and culture can be confusing, painful, and isolating, and believe everyone deserves a space to make sense of it all, to be deeply seen and heard, and to be supported in cultivating a more meaningful and joyful life.

I work from an attachment-based model of therapy with individuals, married couples, "couples", and pre-marital couples.
I specialize in helping couples find connection through healthy communication, conflict management, and intimacy utilizing standardized Gottman Method tools. I believe Individuals and Couples seek counseling because they want something to be different in their lives, and I think by working together we can make those changes happen. In the counseling process, both individual and couples clients can be helped to understand themselves better, set personal goals, and be supported in development. I aspire to meet you both where you are at, help you to feel valued, heard, and understood through our work together.

My approach to therapy is relational, collaborative, trauma-informed, and attachment-based.
We all can get stuck. Trauma, life stressors, uncomfortable emotions, and relationship concerns can throw us off balance. Do you feel constantly stressed, disconnected from your partner, or the impacts of trauma? The weight of these challenges can take a toll on your daily life and overall wellness. You may feel ready to process your trauma and find healing. Or maybe, you yearn for a closer connection and effective communication in your relationship. You may also desire the capacity to cope with stressors and fulfillment in life. This is where counseling can offer support and relief.

My experience as an adoptive, foster and biological mom opened my eyes to mental health and I/DD needs as well as the effects of trauma. For 12 years I worked in county mental health serving initially as a skills trainer in homes, schools and the community. For 5 years I was a wraparound care coordinator, which inspired me to pursue my master’s degree in social work. Since 2017 I have provided therapy in both clinic and school settings. I mostly see clients with PTSD, depression, anxiety, adjustment difficulties and relational stresses. We address the effects on your total person: biological, psychological, social and spiritual.

I utilize a variety of modalities including person-centered, Humanistic, trauma focused, attachment-based, play therapy, mindfulness, sand tray.
Unconditional empathy and understanding are rare in this world, and yet we all need both. I recognizes change is difficult but believes people have a strength and the ability greater than they realize to move through difficult times and heal. My goal is to cultivate a supportive and healing environment in which clients feel seen, secure, and protected. My focus is on a person’s potential and not problematic behaviors. My approach provides the space for individuals to step into a growth mindset, gain insight, belief in themself, and opportunity to appreciate their uniqueness.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
