You deserve to be happy at work! I am a career counsellor who helps confused, burned-out, disillusioned individuals find clarity and hope. I love supporting folks who may not fit into the traditional career boxes because let's face it, not everyone has dreams of being an executive or climbing the corporate ladder! Using a holistic, flexible and creative approach I help folks figure out what is important to them in a career, what strengths they bring to the table, what fits and what doesn't, and how to find happiness and success in any future role. Clients say that they feel grounded and more clear after our work together.

Choosing a therapist that's right for you can feel overwhelming, and finding a good fit is important when sharing life’s difficulties. If this is your first time seeking out a therapist or if you've done this before, it is always my aim to work alongside you, at your individual pace. I collaborate with young people, adults, and couples dealing with stress, anxiety and low mood, relationship struggles, experiences of grief and loss, or even when things just don't feel right. Learning more about your perspective, and focusing our time together on your goals is key to my work with you.

If you are experiencing struggles and seeking support, you are not alone. Loss, trauma, conflict, life changes, emotional and mental suffering do not discriminate. Any one of us can go through periods full of difficulties - some more than others, but every person has personal knowledge of suffering in their lives. Therapy is not easy and there is no quick fix, but I am here to work with you, hear and understand you, and support your self-discovery process. I want to learn about your story, path and beliefs, and together with you identify areas where you have strengths and areas where you need to explore and try new ways of being.

What is therapy? Metaphorically, imagine standing in front of a mirror. Now imagine being so close to the mirror that your face is almost pressed against it. We are all close to our own mirrors, with our faces pressed against it, unable to see our blind spots. Whether those are distorted beliefs we hold, feelings that are overwhelming and/or thoughts that consume us. As your therapist, I would like to help create a distance between you and your mirror. To help you see what no longer serves you and grows you.

There are many reasons to seek therapy. You may be experiencing overwhelming feelings, thoughts or stress. You might wish to address relationship, work or other life challenges. You may seek greater self-understanding or confidence. Whatever your reasons, I hope to offer you a safe space to feel seen, heard and understood. My approach is based on the belief that past experiences shape how we think, feel about ourselves, cope with challenges and relate to others. Together, we will explore and develop insight into current concerns and consider new ways of responding to them. This offers opportunities for meaningful change and growth.

When we feel supported to share our stories truly remarkable things can happen. Therapy can provide the time and space to explore who you are, how your story began, and where you'd like it to go. It offers connection and perspective as you navigate your internal and external world. There are innumerable reasons why one might consider therapy, and each one is valid and worthy of care. Feelings of depression or anxiety, challenging relationships, reduced self-worth, difficult decisions at work, home, or school, or major life transitions can all tax our abilities to cope.

Do you do things you would rather not do or avoid things you should do? Are you frustrated because you put others ahead of you and avoid conflict at all costs, or are you angry and having trouble keeping it in check? Are you feeling alone or misunderstood? If any of the above apply to you, I can help. My process is to listen. And by coming to understand you, help you face the challenges that are preventing you from living life on your terms. Sometimes, it's even about helping you decide what those terms are.

Grief. It's a word heavy with emotion that often conjures images of loss, sadness, and heartache. But grief is so much more than that. It's a rollercoaster of emotions that is inevitable at some point in life. When we think of grief, we often think of the loss of a loved one. While undoubtedly a significant kind of it, grief can take many forms. It can be the witnessing of another's pain, loss of a job, a relationship, a dream unrealized. It can be the end of an era, the closing of a chapter, the diagnosis of life-altering illness, and the shattering of expectations. No matter its form, grief can often feel deeply isolating.

The decision to seek therapy may arise for a number of reasons, including difficulties associated with depression or anxiety, feeling "stuck" in life, grieving, relationships, trauma, or addictions. You might also be in search of meaning in your life, or you want to explore making career or other life changes. Whatever your desire to seek support, therapy provides a safe and confidential space where you can make sense of what is not working for you, heighten awareness of yourself and your difficulties, and with support begin to accept yourself or make changes that are more reflective or who you are and what you want.

Are you struggling with an emotional problem? Or are you looking for help in your relationship? I have been working for 21 years with people who are struggling with depression, anxiety, anger, loss, abuse, self-esteem, divorce, and other issues that are negatively affecting their lives and their relationships. Often we don't know why we stay in unhealthy relationships, behave inappropriately, say something we don't intend to say, or act in a shameful way. In the safe, non-judgmental therapy setting that I offer, you will be able to explore, come to understand and change these ways that are causing you distress

Sit with me in person or dial in virtually across Canada is step one. It’s complementary. Step two we work together on what’s hurting you, maybe relationships, work roadblocks, grief or transitions. It takes bravery to say please help, it’s not unusual that there is no apparent reason. It is ok to need a listening ear to open up new choices on how to live life. It’s ok to need to download, telling me your life’s pressures starts from the get go. Need to relax, I have just the thing ask about experiencing deep relaxation “Let it go”. Virtual throughout Canada, connect for the confidential support you deserve most provinces covered.

Guys have way more going on emotionally than most of us are comfortable talking about. If you have never talked to someone about whatever it is that you probably should talk to someone about, then I may be the guy for you. Some men come to my office after they've recently broken up with their girlfriend (or she has broken up with him). Some are dealing with anxiety or are living under the influence of depression. Some guys are trying to figure out who they really are and what to do with their life. What they all have in common is that they have strengths to draw on and want to advance in life feeling better than they do now.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counselling

How can I find a therapist in Toronto?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postal code, or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postal code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
