Especially passionate about women's issues.
Anyone who is at least moderately motivated :-), has some level of awareness that they need help. More specifically, their issues, needs, and goals could range from struggling with feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, loneliness, relational conflict, grief/loss, overcoming the effects of past trauma, codependency, personal identity and purpose exploration, and the list goes on. They may not know what they want or why, perhaps, a change is needed or there is more potential available than they are accessing. I want to be one of the people to help walk with them through this process of self discovery.

I have over 20 years experience working with life transitions, women's issues, family issues, grief, depression, anxiety and addictions.
I believe in meeting clients where they are at in their healing process. Assisting my clients in identifying their unique strengths in order to find balance and joy in their lives is always at the core of the therapy process. I provide a straightforward, compassionate approach with my clients and take my work very seriously. I do not, however, take myself overly seriously, so clients feel I am very easy to relate to. I believe that everyone, at some point, can benefit from therapy. It's not only to fix what might feel broken, but also to improve on what's working in our lives.

My ideal client is someone whom is struggling in life and motivated to seek help and make the changes necessary in their thoughts, beliefs or circumstances to get back into wellness. I enjoy working with teens. Most of my career has been with at risk youth. I also work with women's issues, addressing underlying causes of stress and overwhelm. I use Imago and Gottman approaches with couples. When working with men, we discuss the need for vulnerability and self-acceptance. Anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss can all be successfully addressed with psychotherapy.

Although I specialize in women's issues and utilize a Feminist lens when working with individuals, I have experience in working with couples and men.
I recognize finding a therapist can be challenging and overwhelming. I hope my profile gives you a sense of who I am as a professional and if I may be a good fit for you. I believe the foundation for therapeutic success is understanding the unique strengths of an individual. Tapping these resources that we each have assists individuals in finding their "best self" and increases the ability to problem solve, cope with difficulties in life, build stronger and healthier relationships, and increase overall quality of life.

I work with individuals struggling with anxiety/stress, depression, relationship difficulties, life transitions, personal growth, changing ineffective patterns, self esteem, trauma/abuse, balancing multiple demands, and women's issues.
I strongly believe you should feel comfortable with the therapist you choose and hopeful about therapy. When you feel this way, therapy is more likely to be beneficial to you. I treat each person I work with as an individual, with your own unique experiences and circumstances. Collaboratively, we decide what problems we will work on and the type of work we will do to facilitate change, healing, and growth. For new clients, I offer a free initial consultation by phone. This gives us a chance to see if we would feel comfortable working together.

You feel like you have some insight into yourself but aren't sure how to take your own advice. People come to you with concerns and you can be so kind and caring but can't do that for yourself. Feelings of anxiety, of never being good enough, are affecting the way you see yourself , your relationships with family and friends and you feel blocked. It's taking a toll on you, and you know this isn't the way you want to live anymore.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
