I specialize in women’s mental health, specifically perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, and also see young adults experiencing various life transitions. Whether you're a new parent and experiencing intrusive thoughts, anxiety, or depression, or you are feeling lost and unsure due to different life circumstances and changes, it can be hard to experience the great joy of these new beginnings when you're not feeling your best. I utilize Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as well as a collaborative, non-judgemental approach where we will explore the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that are interfering with your ability to thrive.

Trauma is any adverse experience that causes extreme emotional reaction: nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety etc. When meeting with me many reach their destination feeling guilty for their response to their unique experience — because its “less than” others. As we begin the journey to health and recovery, I assure all that their individual experience is different and unique. Our goal is to get to the point where you know that your feelings/emotions are not better or worse than another’s, as all individuals have a right to their feelings. No trauma is better, worse, harder or easier than another because it depends on how we react.

I believe within each of us are the answers, solutions, and wisdom needed to address the challenges we face throughout the life cycle. It's normal to doubt our own ability to navigate these issues and find the path through them. My role as therapist with an individual, couple, or family, is to guide. The answers reside within the client/s. My job is to facilitate the person's effort to find what is already there.

You deserve someone who understands, relates to you, and compassionately shows up ready to do the work together. You may be feeling overwhelmed, weighed down by unexplained sadness, struggle with anxiety or perfectionism. Maybe you are coping in ways that don't feel good and lost sight of what is important to you. Life simply can feel out of alignment-I know, I get it, especially as a therapist for women. You feel so much pressure to do it all and sometimes it all feels like too much. Your life needs you back, to come into alignment with your values, to feel like yourself again; and I know how to get you there.

My ideal client is a person that is ready for change and willing to put in the work to achieve success. I have extensive experience with all types of mood disorders, substance abuse, life transitions and trauma and use a variety of approaches tailored to my clients needs and current abilities. One important part of my approach is having a goal of treating the actual underlying problem that has been causing distress, not just treating symptoms.

Hello, I am Angela Tayson I have been a mental health counselor since 2019. Life's motion can feel intense and demanding, seeming to move at a pace beyond one's stride, resulting in chronic stress, increased anxiety, fear, and for some, chronic pain. Throughout this motion, self-care and nurturing relationships can feel overwhelming. Connecting with another human can be one of the safest ways to become grounded and encounter what is asking for acknowledgment and care. I believe the therapeutic relationship and environment has immense potential to provide a secure container for all that is felt to be seen and explored—giving fear the opportunity to be faced and transformed into intentional forward movement.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
