I believe my job as a therapist is to help individuals, parents or couples find "their owner's manual". My work must be diagnostic and strategic through a comprehensive understanding of the person, their situation and settings. I have a wide background as a therapist from settings in several different clinics that provides a layering of understanding. i.e. education, addiction, trauma, family therapy, and group treatment clinics. I also believe understanding culture is vital to effective treatment as well.

Whether you are experiencing stress from your own problems, from your family and friends or in the workplace, I am interested in helping you sort through and understand your concerns, help you develop new skills to solve these difficulties, and then to try out these solutions until the intensity of your concerns feels less worrisome.

I work with you to develop your unique, effective voice. We work together to agree upon, and implement, techniques aimed at achieving your goals. Looking for a different, more personal therapy experience, here it is ! I work collaboratively with you and your child/adolescent/family to develop a plan together on the second session, get a new skill each week, and see progress within 8 sessions. With 29 of years experience with children, adolescents and adults recovering from trauma, grief, emotional or behavioral challenges with educational or work-related issues in schools, group homes, rural health care clinics and military facilities. Sessions are online with a confidential platform to offer connivence and accessibility to any location in South Carolina.

Feeling lost and overwhelmed by all the decisions and choices you are faced with daily can be stressful and exhausting, and stress can be magnified by the constant changes everyone experiences. These changes in relationships, your roles in school or workplace, family situations, and demands from others can all make you feel anxious, depressed...helpless. The isolation and loneliness we experienced during the pandemic did not evaporate when the crisis was contained, and now we are forced to cope new stressors. Depression, anxiety, increased substance use have been noted. But help & healing are available .

I am a licensed independent Social Worker specializing in individual, group, children, couples and family therapy. I maintain a private practice in Sumter, South Carolina and have over twenty years experience as a therapist. My therapeutic approach is to provide support, practical feedback and solution-based therapy to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. I work with individuals to help them build on their strengths and attain personal growth. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I accept all major insurances including Medicare as well as numerous Employee Assistance programs.

We all need assistance at different times in our lives to navigate through challenging opportunities. As a therapist I am an advocate for healing, growth and a more authentic life. I work with adults who are dealing with loss, anxiety, depression, anger management, identity issues, trauma and those wanting a deeper more fulfilling life. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR, is a powerful, research-based therapy technique that is very successful in helping people who suffer from trauma, anxiety, disturbing memories, post-traumatic stress and similar emotional problems. I use EMDR and other modalities to work with adults.

I enjoy working with children, teenagers, families and adults and have been providing individual and family counseling for 22 years. I am a Registered Play Therapist, National Board Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor and I have received extensive training in Filial Play Therapy, Parenting Education, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Post-Adoption Issues.

I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, anger issues, ADHD, and oppositional behaviors through individual and family sessions for people of all ages.

My goals for all of my clients include building on effective life skills, learning new coping skills that empower you to reach your goals, processing past traumas to change core beliefs about yourself and the world, and overall feeling respected as a human being through the therapy process.

We all face difficult challenges or situations that affect our way of life, who we are, and our social/family environments resulting in hurt, pain, depression, anxiety, feeling of grief/loss, and need to be validated and accepted. No one should go through these challenges alone as I meet you where you are in life's travels and assist you in navigating these difficulties with my years of experience and education.
