The couple subsystem is the very foundation to which the family system is built upon. If this foundation is weak or unstable, the family will fall apart. I believe that in order for a family to thrive, the couple must have a strong and healthy relationship. Couples work has the ability to impact other areas of therapy such as family work and work with children. The function or dysfunction of the family system is directly related to the functionality of the couple. The couple's relationship and communication style, effects their resilience or ability to work through or withstand crisis.

I believe each client possesses the wisdom and resilience needed to be successful in therapy. My job is to help you connect the threads of your story in a way that shines light on what needs to change, and to suggest evidence-based steps to make those changes. I’ll ask good questions, listen fully and offer tangible ways to meet your goals. I work with adults as well as children/teens from age 9-17 years old. I have personal knowledge and experience with individuals in public safety, hospital staff, military, and first responders. I can relate to the stress and strain that type of work causes in your personal and professional life. I am trained in Compassion Fatigue and Burnout (CCFP) that can help you enjoy work and activities again. My experience in that area has transitioned well over to helping others. Depression, anxiety, relationships, communication are all hidden issues when you think it is just being tired or “worn out” from your work.

Counseling parents, couples, adolescents, and adults who desire relief from everyday life stresses and chronic issues is my specialty. Home, school, community, social media, change of life, identity, and purpose issues that correlate with behavioral, mental, substance abuse, and anger-related issues are additional specialties. I am available for individual, couples, or groups counseling. l can also be contacted as a speaker for seminars or training tailored to address behaviors affecting the workplace, home, school, or community settings.

I have been working in the field of mental health for over 20 years. My scope of practice includes working primarily with adults and their families, focusing on the individual as well as the family system. I have experience working in the areas of higher education, community outreach, crisis intervention, private practice and in the inpatient hospital setting. My focus is on changing maladaptive patterns of thought so that one can achieve optimal mental health. I am certified in Rational Living Therapy and utilize Rogerian as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques.

The issues that bring individuals to a therapist such as depression, stress, grief, or relationship issues don't feel very good. However, these very issues and the path we enter to resolve them can result in enormous opportunities for growth. I offer a safe space for individuals to discuss challenges and life difficulties. I have worked extensively with young children with social-emotional and behavioral concerns and their families. As a therapist and a foster parent I understand the unique challenges that children in care face.
