I work with a variety of issues but specialize in treating complex trauma, particularly survivors of childhood sexual abuse, relationship difficulties, and working with high-performers such as C-Suite executives, entrepreneurs, athletes, artists, and other medical professionals.
My approach to therapy is founded on the premise that healing occurs within the context of a safe and consistent relationship that allows for the exploration and expression of your true self. The therapeutic process offers the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the repetitive thoughts, feelings, and patterns that prevent you from living a healthier and more fulfilled life. My hope is to help facilitate the experience of creative self-discovery, to help you be and become more fully alive, and more fully yourself.

I often work with people who have experienced trauma such as domestic violence, sexual abuse and physical abuse, but there is a wide range of experiences that we can work on together. I began my counseling experience with survivors of sexual assault, which became a passion and specialty for me.
Trauma is one of those things that comes in all shapes and sizes. It can be one specific event or occur over a long period of time. The effects of unresolved trauma can wreak havoc on your life if it isn't processed, and you might be noticing that happening now. If you've been having some irritability, anger, unexplained anxiety, or other feelings that don't really fit the situation, it may be time to talk to someone about it. Trauma affects us in different ways, and if we're not careful, we can easily take it out on our loved ones. Working through that trauma in therapy can truly help you heal from those experiences.

I believe that everyone has the right to live the life they imagine for themselves. Each of us has a right to feel safe, respected, protected and loved. I have been a psychotherapist for the past twenty years. I chose this profession because I wanted to continue to grow and explore life to its fullest in a work environment that generates positivity. I have worked extensively with the HIV/AIDS community, engaged in comprehensive therapy with sexual abuse and trauma clients, along with a focus on work/life balance concerns. I focus on the client’s strengths, and goals, and explore one's thoughts, past experiences, and belief systems.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
