In the most basic terms, my professional interests are in the areas of health, identity, and personal growth. My approach is integrative and tailored to the client's needs. Therapeutic sessions attend to clients' current distress and foster awareness on how certain behaviors that were once adaptive may no longer be of benefit. The intention is to decrease distress, foster awareness, and encourage personal growth towards more mindful, healthful living.
I teach ambitious people effective tools to build confidence and feel worthy again, whether post-breakup, single, or in a relationship. With 13 years of professional and personal experience, I have equipped hundreds of people with proven effective tools to be able to manage waves of intense and challenging emotions, navigate conflict, express feelings better, get clear on and establish boundaries, and improve communication and relationships.
Trauma can leave us feeling like we have no control over the details of our lives and can make us feel unsafe, anxious, sad and many other emotions that make daily functioning harder. An essential part of trying to heal is learning the tools that can help us develop coping skills and techniques to navigate through life. I truly believe everyone deserves to control their own narrative, so as a counselor my goal is to help clients tell their own story and to have a safe space to speak freely without judgment.
I strongly believe that every individual should be treated with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. It takes strength to seek change in your life and therapy is a good starting point. If you are ready to take that step,
Dr. Kity D. Laboriel is a Florida licensed clinical psychologist with both a wide and deep range of experience providing services to children, adults and families. For the last years, Dr. Laboriel worked as the Mental Health Specialist for the Head Start and Early Head Start Program in Broward County Public Schools. She believes that early identification and intervention is imperative to the prospect for success in life. This is particularly important with the significant increase in developmental delays in early childhood, behavioral disorders, and pervasive developmental concerns such as Autism.
What would “I am enough” look like to you? If you imagined a happier, healthier quality of life with less pressure and more control, what would you see? The demands placed upon us can be overwhelming – even crippling – specifically for women. The process of coming into our authentic self can be complex and we can often find ourselves slipping into behaviors that are rooted in what others expect of us. Your authentic self is who you are at your deepest core. It is about being true to ALL of you, by aligning your thoughts, words and behaviors.
I treat those struggling with depression, anxiety, anger, stress, grief, trauma, self esteem and self confidence issues, relationship and family issues, social and communication skills, OCD and ADHD. Through empathy I strive to understand each client’s specific context and unique perspective, and view each counseling relationship as a collaborative endeavor. My personal, educational, and professional life experiences have provided me with a strong foundation of patience and compassion to effectively help my clients.
We all need someone with whom to talk. Does that mean that something is "wrong" with all of us? It doesn't. It does mean, however, that we all, at different times in our life, need someone to hear and understand us. At LACES, it is our aim to assist people (young and old) who are struggling with life's challenges. We can help you regain your balance and enrich your life. We care. We can help. Give LACES a call as we all need a little help finding our way.
I am a Licensed Psychologist serving individuals in NJ, NY, FL, and VT. I believe every person has different hurdles to conquer in life and might need assistance along the way. With that being said, I work with my patients to form a safe and comfortable treatment environment to successfully accomplish their treatment goals. I believe one of the most important factors is the therapist-patient relationship. I take the time to build a solid therapeutic relationship so I can best serve my patients.
I work with couples who have previously struggled with seeing improvement in other therapy or coaching services; BIPOC Couples; Interracial and Multicultural couples and individuals who experience a unique set of challenges; women who feel they’ve been pushed into the mold of who other's need them to be while struggling to identify their core self; men who've never had the space, energy or awareness to share the thoughts, feel the feelings and connect the dots; and therapists who've been everything to everybody, but have struggled in the area of self-care, burnout or achieving work/life balance.
I have over 25 yrs experience working with individuals facing mental health and substance use concerns. I strive to provide an open safe space with no judgement to discuss thoughts, feelings and behaviors with the intention of creating opportunities for change. These changes may be practiced and adjusted as needed to find a solution that fits the unique person that is you. If one is trying to make a change and has a slip aka "blip in the radar of life". We do not start all over, we look at what was learned with curiosity and start again where we are in the process. This is a shame and blame free zone. We are all works in progress.

My practice is currently limited to a short term (sometimes just one session) treatment technique known as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). " A.R.T. works to reprogram the way in which distressing images and memories are stored in the brain so that they no longer trigger strong physical and emotional reactions" (Laney Rosenzweig, ART developer). You can find out more about ART at acceleratedresolutiontherapy.com. I am also an international expert on the treatment of self-injury (www.selfinjury.com) and continue to lecture extensively on the subject.
