Loneliness. Deep and profound loneliness is a common theme that I have seen in working with individuals and families struggling with addiction. "Addiction is the disease of escape" Compulsive and self destructive behaviors are an ettempt to escape underlying emotional pain. With appropriate clinical interventions we can learn healthy coping skills and alternate ways of dealing with our emotional pain. This is the first step to establishing intimacy and meaningful relationships, bringing into our life the happiness we all deserve.
