I have had particular success with families of adoption, marital counseling, conflictual divorces, and learning disabilities.
I will bring warmth, openness, empathy, intelligent understanding, and a non-judgmental, down-to-earth, supportive approach to our therapy. Whether you are new to therapy or have some previous experience, I use a personalized approach to help you learn to cope with your specific life circumstances. We will work to uncover and understand your needs and feelings. With my expertise in couples and families, and individuals, I focus on each client's unique circumstances. Ultimately, the best way to determine if I can be helpful to you, is to meet me in person to see how you feel.

Finding balance is hard and we all need help sometimes. School struggles, parenting/marital stress, or past traumatic events can lead us to feel overwhelmed. Therapy is a powerful experience to better understand our emotions and behaviors. You deserve to be happy. Feeling anger, hurt, or sadness is natural, but it doesn't have to define you or control you or your child's life. With my diverse background, I am committed to helping you/your child reclaim your happiness and achieve mental and emotional well-being. Together we will build the skills and resilience you need to achieve growth and see change.

Communication is the golden thread that has run throughout my professional life as I transitioned from a Speech Therapist, to a Television Talk Show Host, to a Marriage and Family Therapist.
Among the joys of my job is the privilege of walking alongside a person on their path to discovering their personal possibilities. I can help you combat anxiety and depression by helping to reveal unrecognized treasure in you. Together we will identify what you are doing right and how to do more of it. In couples therapy, I will help you achieve a deeper, safer connection through a new pattern of communication that gives you the confidence of being partners who will be there for each other.

In addition to being a licensed marriage and family therapist, I have a two-year certification in Gestalt Therapy, an experiential approach that integrates mind and body.
Do you feel stuck in your life or in your relationship(s)? Or are you in a transition that's bogging you down? You don't have to go it alone. Together, we can clarify what isn't working for you and identify areas for change; tap into your strengths and talents; and help you move toward greater joy and deeper connections.

A client should be motivated for change, seeking desired progress from where they are in this moment to where they envision themselves. They are in need of support, guidance and improved skills to address their presenting difficulties which could be overwhelm, increased anxiety, feelings of depression, loss of a spouse or loved one, divorce or other major life event impacting their level of functioning. The individual client should be over the age of 12 but families with smaller children are welcome for sessions as well. Couples work is vital so divorce proof your marriage or relationship in sessions with me.

I'm a clinical member of The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and Approved Supervisor with more than 25 years of experience helping individuals, couples and families change their lives for the better.
I have seen how marriages are more successful in achieving their goals when we focus on solutions instead of problems. This has led me to create a new offering called the Couples Enrichment Program. Together, you will learn 1) How to resolve conflict towards a healthy resolution. 2) How gender differences impact communication and how to bridge the gap. 3) Specific techniques for effective parenting. Benefits of this program include understanding the importance of prioritizing your marriage to support your relationship, your children's healthy development, and establishing a deeper intimate connection.

What keeps you from experiencing joy and love fully and living your life with ease and contentment? As a Marriage and Family Therapist for 12 years providing individual, couples and family therapy I have worked with many people with a variety of needs, and I am ready to take the next steps with you.
Emotional well-being much like physical health is a journey. It is a process that takes both time and effort. What you gain from your effort is entirely up to you, but it helps to have the right support! I believe you are the director of your life’s purpose and your potential for health and wholeness can be limitless! I believe our hurts, our traumas, our personal judgments of ourselves, and the judgments we internalize from others are things that disconnect us from our inner self, and our ability to heal, realize our potential and shine our light fully can be challenging. What holds you back or disconnects you from your inner self?

I am Gottman trained marriage therapist, court certified divorce/family mediator, certified EMDR trauma therapist.
In choosing a therapist, ask someone trusted, but remember they have their own biases. Consider someone State Licensed and check their complaint or malpractice history. Inquire about negotiating a "self pay fee", your therapist will work for you, not your insurance company. Look for someone with more life experience than you. Look for someone who is a parent, is married or has experienced divorce, has lived with grief or watched their own parents age. Request an initial consultation session and ask about professional experience and certifications. Remember, the therapist relationship fit is most important to counseling success. lastly, listen to your conscience,

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
