I currently have a long waitlist! I understand the concern and confusion that parents may have when their child experiences difficulties in school, home, or elsewhere. I believe in working together with parents to help their children. I take time to get to know my clients so I can offer the most appropriate, individualized care for them. I trained in educational and behavioral psychology and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. In addition to direct treatment services, I am able to provide evaluations with extensive reports to aid in treatment planning.

I started Aptitude Behavioral Services, LLC to service school-age children in the East TN area. I love working with children through pre-teen ages and have also worked with a few higher-functioning teenagers. My typical day involves working with families that face challenges with behavior and working directly with children to decrease these behaviors while building skill deficits. I enjoy including family in my sessions and want to empower caregivers and family members so that they are equipped to handle behavioral challenges.

I have worked for the past 19 years with adults, adolescents and children, addressing a variety of issues to include behavioral concerns, a variety of mental health diagnoses, trauma, addiction, self-harm, depression, anxiety, family issues, and more. I have also worked with adults in a variety of settings to address marriage and family concerns as well as addiction, trauma, and parenting skills.

Although I am pre-licensed, I have over 10 years of experience in counseling, working with various populations and a large variety of issues. I love supporting families and children of all ages, and work to help them understand, build, and create healthy dynamics and support systems. It’s necessary to learn to attend to our own internal experiences, to safely connect with others. I believe that working to find solutions now will help to prevent future problems, and will create the opportunity for happy, healthy lives. We must create the change we want to see, and I am here to help you, your family, and your child reach their goals.

I work with children and families to target their clinical concerns in the treatment of of selective mutism, anxiety, disruptive behavior and other behavioral concerns in children and adolescents. Parent training is at the core of my work as you are with your child the most, it is vital that you feel skilled to support your child at home outside of the treatment room. We work with teachers, family, and community when appropriate to treatment to take treatment goals out of the therapy room.

I am passionate about building trust and working with clients to set achievable goals to work towards together. Rachael finds herself using Solution Focused and Behavioral Therapy due to the rapid results and retention of new skills. She believes that Mental Health should be treated the same as one who goes to the Medical Doctor for an illness, we want results, and that is what she wants to give you. Of course, all treatments are not the same and some bumps in the road take longer to repair. Rachael is willing and able to adjust her Therapeutic skills to meet your needs and is willing to walk right beside you as you heal, no matter how long it takes.

I have a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with over 25 years of experience in the mental health field. My graduate education was rooted in a family systems approach with a later focus on Christian Counseling. I have experience working with children ages 2 - 18, as well as adults of all ages, in a wide range of settings. As a result I am well prepared to work with the entire family system to help clients find long lasting healing.

I am a licensed clinical social worker specializing in stress, grief, depression, anxiety, suicide prevention, chronic management illness, crises management, as well as in coping skills in both adolescents and adults.
