Poor mental health leads to poor physical health and vice versa. Sleep depravation, unhealthy eating habits, and lack of activity and exercise, could lead to exhaustion, isolation, communication problems, and performance difficulties causing changes in mood, unrealistic fears, stress, and substance abuse. Common physical symptoms could become severe affecting your entire body. It is important to address and resolve your mental health problems to avoid possible physical consequences. Citas en Espanol. Therapy is a passion that I feel so lucky to have found. I learn with and from every client I see. While I have experience with many populations, I am most knowledgeable with assisting victims of domestic violence, children struggling with depression/anxiety, and individuals who have experience with addiction. I enjoy working with individuals who are ready to face their fears, build a therapeutic relationship, and improve their overall quality of life. I believe that regardless of what you have achieved, you deserve the life you are willing to create for yourself. I currently see ages 13 and up.

The areas that I help my clients with are for those dealing with anxiety, depression, codependency, low emotional intelligence, addictions (especially sex/porn addiction), personality disorders and trauma. I find that people are looking for ways to deal and cope with the stress and challenges in their lives and unfortunately most people do not cope with their problems in a healthy way; instead they will find ways to cope by escaping, keeping themselves busy and distracted, basically never dealing directly with the problem and defer it for another time, but that time usually doesn't come.

Perhaps you are struggling with a recent loss, a sudden health crisis, betrayal or conflict with a loved one. Perhaps you have suffered trauma that you have never shared and holding the secret has become burdensome and lonely. Maybe you struggle with depression or anxiety or racing thoughts that keep you up at night. Maybe the old ways you used to cope no longer help and are actually causing you or your loved ones more pain. Our old ways of coping can become self-limiting and cause us to “live small”. We hide our authentic selves, become self-critical and feel powerless to change both our inner experience and our outer situation.

Nothing touches the pain that you feel in your body. You have tried it all: cortisone injections, surgery, MRI’s, X-Rays, physical therapy, doctors, acupuncture, massage, and medications. None of it has alleviated the pain. Hopelessness has set in. Every second of the day has become about how to escape the pain. Depression increases from what you can’t do anymore because of the pain. Anxiety spikes as you can’t figure out how to make it better or go away. You watch your movements like a hawk to make sure you don’t make it any worse. You are at your wits end. In spite of it all, there is hope.

Life is a natural ebb and flow. However, when we get stuck in the ebb we can begin to develop patterns of being that do not serve our physical and emotional wellbeing; this can be a difficult place from which to emerge. The decision to seek guidance during these times is a bold act of self-compassion. We have incredible internal resources and an inherent capacity for healing. My role is to help guide clients back to connection with their authentic selves and others through the process of curious exploration, loving-kindness, and present moment awareness.

After a very rewarding and joyful career of raising five children, Carrie discovered her passion for psychology, therapy, and the clients she has been honoured to work with. Nothing is quite as rewarding as watching a client during an "aha" moment or hearing about a particularly difficult challenge successfully overcome. Nothing touches the soul quite as much as someone trusting you with their deepest of pains.

It is my honor and privilege to get to work in a profession that I love, where I am able to partner with hard-working people to find solutions to their struggles. I have seen the positive results of people being able to open up in a non-threatening environment. Together, we look at your whole self, taking into account relationships and their influence on who you are. I'm passionate about my work and I'm blessed to have the opportunity to witness someone making a significant change and being there when they experience the moment or series of moments where it all clicks.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
