The most rewarding therapy sessions occur with clients who are motivated to make progress towards the goals they set. I strongly believe that the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client is of upmost importance to the client meeting their goals. I strive to build a trusting, supportive, and safe relationship with each of my clients. I believe everyone has their own unique story to tell. I enjoy hearing that story and helping people overcome the issues that can surface over a lifetime. I see adults and adolescents in my therapy practice as well as the occasional couple.

Hi! My name is Greg Kirkham and I am the founder/owner of About FACE family and child enrichment. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 16 years experience as a mental health therapist. My approach to counseling, formed from the general belief that therapy is largely ineffective and a waste of time/money, emphasizes two key factors: therapeutic relationships and patient motivation to change. Either, without the other, renders change difficult, if not impossible. About FACE was created as my vision of how to produce results by focusing on readiness to change, rapport building and strengthening of relationships w/ others.

I view each client as a unique person and develop the best therapeutic approach for their needs. My passion is to help individuals identify healthy coping skills and beliefs to deal with everyday life issues or past difficulties that impact their lives today.

I named my practice Acorn Villa, because a villa represents a place where we feel comfortable and secure; the acorn represents change and growth. Just as the oak tree is waiting in the tiny acorn to grow into greatness, we too have the ability to grow into our greatest possible self. In order to cultivate the growth needed to thrive, we need to feel secure and supported. Acorn Villa is a place for learning new behaviors, cultivating positive change, and planning for successful futures...a place for change and growth. I want to support individuals in those difficult phases of life where they face challenges.
You do not have to live the way you’ve always lived. The suffering does not have to persist. You can choose yourself. This thing called life offers unexpected obstacles that cause a course change. Therapy enables us to feel empowered to overcome our barriers. We must self-search and manage internal issues to obtain that empowered position. There is no point to a bandaid approach, so we would work on the deeper issues that cause presenting problems, like unhealthy attachments and trauma. These are the source of anxious thinking, depression, and addictions. I am EMDR trained, which helps us to address root issues.
My work as a therapist is guided by the humanist theory that people can heal and grow if they have assistance that is genuine, empathetic, and accepting. I believe that when we accept ourselves exactly as we are, then we can find the strength to change behaviors that are not serving us. I specialize in working with people who have substance use, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal conflict issues. The approaches I use are informed by dialectic behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, positive psychology, attachment theory, and family systems theory.
I specialize in working with girls and women. They face unique challenges through emotional struggles and life transitions. My goal is to help girls and women as they experience depression, anxiety, body image issues, trauma-related issues, and more by building upon their strengths and helping them to navigate situations in a healthy, responsive way.

If so, then I am passionate about providing a safe, secure, and comfortable environment where you can explore, grow, and successfully achieve your goals. Furthermore, my hope is for you to continue to succeed independently beyond your therapeutic experience.
We all at times feel inadequate, have a loss of direction, identity, and/or authenticity which transitions into a loss of real relationship. Our feelings, anxiety, depression, life losses, medical conditions, and other mental health challenges can knock us off balance. I am here to walk alongside others in finding a healthy path and learning to deal with reality in a positive way.
