You don't have to go through it alone. Maybe you have worked really hard to carry the burden by yourself for so long, to figure it all out. Maybe it's time to let someone support you now. It takes courage and strength to seek support in the middle of it all. I feel honored to support my clients as they seek out a more fulfilling and happier life. I provide a supportive space to process what's on your mind today along with what's under the surface of your current distress. We can face the scary parts together, and you will find that healing is possible for you.

Children experience the same emotions that adults do; however, they may not be able to verbally express those feelings. They express how they are feeling through play and art. Children communicate through their actions, and they are not able to regulate their emotions yet. This is why children and teenagers may act out to express their anger and frustration. My passion is to help children and teenagers that are hurting process their emotions and work through the hard stuff by providing a safe and warm place for them to be who they are.

Many people carry the weight of life’s experiences and feel overwhelmed, uncertain, and unsatisfied. Maybe you’re struggling with a particular event, or maybe you’re concerned about your relationship or the way you’ve been feeling. The decision to begin therapy is an important one, and I am honored to walk with clients who are ready to move toward their goals. I am most passionate about helping individual and partnered adults who experience issues arising from sexual or relationship trauma, complex questions of identity, life transitions, grief or loss, as well as unique struggles associated with fertility/pregnancy/early parenting.

I started Aptitude Behavioral Services, LLC to service school-age children in the East TN area. I love working with children through pre-teen ages and have also worked with a few higher-functioning teenagers. My typical day involves working with families that face challenges with behavior and working directly with children to decrease these behaviors while building skill deficits. I enjoy including family in my sessions and want to empower caregivers and family members so that they are equipped to handle behavioral challenges.

No matter how much effort you put forth in your significant relationships, the message you want them to receive, seems lost in the confusion of misunderstandings. You want to love and be loved, but you continue to feel alone and sometimes devalued. What is their problem --or your's? How can you connect in healthy ways and maintain your own personal values and goals? As your mind continues to repeat memories of failed attempts to fix what has gone wrong, you don't know where to turn for real help. Everyone seems to have an answer, but no one sees the whole picture. There are times when an objective listener is the best option.

You are doing a brave thing. Anxiety, panic attacks, and depression can play a role in keeping us from seeking help outside of our known comfort zone. But there is help available, and hope for a better life. I specialize in working with anxiety, depression, and trauma and PTSD symptoms. We may cope in ways that work in the moment, but come back in the form of panic attacks, isolation, fatigue, lack of focus, appetite changes, difficulty staying motivated, and feeling constantly on edge or numb. If anxiety is hindering your quality of life, or your depression is too heavy to carry alone, welcome. This is a safe place to unpack these.

By building trusting relationships with my clients, they feel comfortable to explore and disclose the barriers that prevent them from being able to connect with themselves and others. We work together to identify those barriers and pursue change to create avenues for healthy and fulfilling relationships.

Children are affected by a number of life issues divorce, loss of a family member, or loss of a friend. Your child may have a diagnosis of Aspergers (now Autism Spectrum Disorder), ADHD, or Depression. Your child may be struggling to connect with peers, keep up academically, or battling anxiety. Yet, it may be hard for you as a parent to get them to open up. What if there was a way to help your child right where they are instead of trying to bring them up to an adult level of conversation?

Young adults are my passion! I've worked extensively with this population for the past thirteen years as a Professional Counselor, with an approach that is relaxed, genuine, and honest. You'll recognize me from the leggings and cardigan I wear every. single. day... Many clients see me specifically for a Christian approach, but I respect any belief system clients bring with them. You CAN find healing, and this is a safe place to start!! You can find more info at https://www.traversecounselingservices.com/ (under the counselors tab). (Unfortunately, Traverse no longer sees clients under 18 years old).

How can I find a therapist in Cleveland?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
