I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 24 years of rich experience providing hope and healing to individuals of all ages. I will meet you where you are and will strive to strengthen our relationship by providing the highest quality of care. I love listening to people's stories and offering encouragement and hope to the discouraged and hopeless. I enjoy working with many types of people and the challenges they are having. The areas of grief and trauma, including the secondary effects, such as anxiety, depression, anger, relationship/trust issues,self-medicating and stagnation are my specialties. I use an eclectic approach to working with my clients, meaning that I like to employ many different styles of counseling into sessions. I approach issues honestly, openly and directly. I have been described as warm, genuine, easy to talk to and dedicated. I view every client in a holistic way. Rather than asking "what's wrong with you?" I ask "what have you been through?"

You're tired of arguing. You've been struggling to communicate effectively with your partner and you're frustrated. Maybe you're starting to feel resentment in your relationship and questioning if you're with the right person. Perhaps you've endured a past riddled with abuse, abandonment, neglect or even sexual trauma and these experiences are making it difficult for you to be vulnerable or intimate. I help couples work through marital conflicts and help them achieve a relationship based on trust, security, mutual empathy and deeper levels of connection. I also work with individuals struggling with histories of trauma such as sexual, physical or emotional abuse. In addition, I help men who struggle with compulsive sexual behaviors, anxieties, depression, and/or obsessive thoughts. I encourage clients to explore their past in order to identify patterns that are affecting their current relationships and personal goals. I provide a safe place to share personal struggles and work toward change. Upon request, I provide a Christian approach.

No matter the presenting concern, building a trusting relationship between client and therapist is paramount for successful treatment. First and foremost, I focus on establishing a supportive, non-hierarchical relationship with each client. I believe clients get the most out of therapy by gaining a sense of agency over their experience, both in and out of treatment. Goals are established based on the client's needs, wants, and unique characteristics. I hope that clients will feel empowered by our work together.

This can often be done without reliving painful memories, but with a focus on releasing burdens and working toward internal integration and harmony.

My name is Crystal Tolbert, and I am a Master of Professional Counseling under supervision, with a focus on trauma and grief, from the accredited Grand Canyon University. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Family Advocacy from Liberty University. My most recent experience includes working with at-risk teens, short-term adult crisis-stabilization, and long-term adult substance rehabilitation.
