EMDR certified, a life changing treatment that helps people to move on from past stressful or traumatic experiences.
."I belong, therefore I am." The sense of belonging has often been wounded, damaged or undeveloped. Initially in our family, later in school, with friends and at work. Through the process of exploration and self-searching, we can begin to let ourselves go. When we are kind, and less consumed by our own ego; the darkness of depression and anxiety have less of a hold and we can find freedom.

I can help your child become their own therapist by learning techniques and coping strategies to learn how to deal with their challenges in their lives. I work well with children and adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, social issues, learning issues, attention deficit disorder, and body image issues. Clients often see improved well-being early on in therapy.

Seeking help for mental health challenges can be uncomfortable for many. Individuals need a therapist that can create a non-judgmental, empathic space where clients can feel safe. In my work with clients, I prioritize establishing that safety by approaching people with compassion and curiosity. I strive to provide clients with the highest quality of care by continuing my education on issues that are most relevant to my client's needs. I believe that therapy must be tailored the individual's needs and collaborate with my clients to help them cope with anxiety, depression, and trauma.

I base my primary approach in integrated, evidence based practices including Attachment Based Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Based Approaches, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Family Therapy, and Child-Parent Psychotherapy.
Understanding the dynamics behind the repeating processes in your life, whether they are symptoms or undesirable patterns, is the first step for meaningful and durable change. I work with both adults and children who have different forms of anxiety, depression, trauma/loss, relationship issues, or stressful life transitions, such as immigration or being a new parent. To me, psychotherapy is a collaborative process in which we identify and reorganize your thoughts and feelings, and see how they are linked with your behaviors in a fully non-judgmental, freeing interpersonal space.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
