Is anxiety, depression, relationship conflicts, difficulty forming intimate relationships due to self-doubt, some unidentifiable reasons, or a combination of life difficulties preventing you from achieving your goal or living your life to the fullest? My ultimate goal is to help each individual create meaningful changes so they can live their life in the most meaningful way. The process starts with a strong therapeutic relationship with a foundation of trust, empathy, and wholeness. Change can be uncomfortable, but the discomfort that comes with change when presented with the right connection and tools will yield tremendous growth.
I have been working in the social work field since 1984. About 25 years ago, I started my full time private practice, and can still say that I love what I do. 30 years working with people provides me with a wealth of knowledge. A client only needs to bring themselves and have a willingness to commit to the therapeutic process. I have also enjoyed teaching as an adjunct instructor at The Adelphi University School of Social Work, where I teach graduate level classes in Individual Treatment, Group Treatment and Family/Marital Treatment.
I emphasize counseling that is collaborative with the client. We work as a team to identify strengths, areas needing improvement, goals, and treatment. Sessions are conducted with compassion and a strong preference to understand you and your experiences. I specialize in relationship issues and family-of-origin concerns, as well as trauma, mood disorders, and anxiety. I am here to assist you in learning new ways of thinking and behaving that will increase your quality of life. Life doesn't have to be so hard. Let me assist you in shining some light on a healthier future.
I enjoy working with all types of individuals at different stages of readiness for therapy. Each client is an individual who comes with a specific set of needs and would benefit from a holistic approach. During sessions, the client and I focus on achieving their stated goals. I believe in developing these goals with the client and agreeing on the means to obtain them. I enjoy working with a wide range of populations such as children, adolescents, adults, couples and parents. "The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new." - Socrates
Twila Are you falling apart? Or did you try to put yourself back together and have left over pieces? Either way may make you feel vulnerable . It can be uncomfortable, unsettling, and anxiety-provoking. I’m more of a holistic counselor which means I am not quick to assume you need medicine. That might mean we talk about food, sleep, spirituality, mindfulness, music, and moving your body.

While there are many excellent therapists, the question of best fit is vital. My therapeutic approach honors suffering and difference. Therapy is a place for healing through words, stories, and a trusting relationship. Through this relationship new narrative possibilities arise, as empathy and compassion open a path for creative collaboration. The goal of this approach is relief from old narratives and relationship patterns that no longer serve you. As you develop greater insight and awareness, you gain the freedom to make more intentional decisions about how and who you want to be.
