I have focused on the areas of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Finding the right therapist can be overwhelming. I provide free consultations so you can get an idea if we are a good fit. It has been my passion the last 17 years to help people after experiencing traumatic events. I am trained in EMDR which is also known as "no talk therapy". You can share as much or as little as you like making it a preferable type of therapy for those struggling with trauma but not comfortable talking about it. I have also worked closely with first responders for the last 10 years making me familiar with the culture. I also provide consultation and subject matter testimony for domestic violence trials.

I have experience in working with children, adolescents and adults with a variety of issues, but I have special training in dealing with sexual abuse, as well as depression and anxiety.
Making the decision to contact a therapist is not always easy. There may be fear of judgment or of the unknown. I applaud those who take the first step to seek help for issues they are struggling with. Anxiety, depression and self-harm, to name a few, have become such common struggles in our society. Therapy can be a place to explore your life, take a look at your experiences and build skills to help improve your future. Sometimes, everyone needs help weeding through those difficult times when things can become confusing or overwhelming. My goal is to walk with clients through this process and toward their goals.

Do you suffer from trauma due to sexual abuse, abusive relationships, unresolved childhood trauma, and/or generational trauma? We hold on to that trauma in their Physical bodies without knowing. This and the emotional trauma an individual endures show up in our lives even when the action is over. Every relationship is affected as well as how we show up in our lives with work and other activities. This can show up in an abundance of ways. Deep down, we know something is off and want to heal and show up differently; however, we don't know how.

Have you experienced a traumatic event, or multiple traumatic events, that lead you questioning when the next bad thing will happen? I enjoy empowering clients to process the heavy things on their heart and mind that maybe don't feel safe to share with others. Together we can build coping skills, incorporate mindfulness techniques, and utilize EMDR to get you moving forward with less stress.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
