If you enjoy animals, nature or people, you already have a powerful foundation to create stability and momentum in your life. What you might struggle with isn't a label. It's an experience. Start where you're at, and explore it with somebody who will start there with you. Need change or just greater balance? Want more out of life? On a journey, but somehow lost? Feeling stuck, apathetic, burnt out or anxious is not uncommon! However, the tools and how to use them are not always obvious. Animal assisted, experiential, mindfulness and nature-based therapies are most clients' favorite tools.

Hi there, I highly value meeting clients where they’re at. I aim to provide a warm, relational, and trauma informed space that focuses on empowerment, safety, and collaboration with my clients. I believe that therapy is a space where clients’ voices and stories should be heard and validated. I believe that when clients are met with empathy and validation, they can begin to do that for themselves and others. I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate in Colorado and work with young children, teens, and adults affected by trauma and who have difficulties with self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and suicidality.

I am a white neurodivergent nonbinary trans woman interested in supporting adults navigating life changes of all kinds, with specific attention to collaboration with trans, nonbinary, and (neuro)queer individuals. My hope would be to identify and to build on clients' existing strengths and skills to foster increased confidence, values-based problem solving, and affirming connections in relationships. I defer to practices that root therapy in each client's lived experience and that challenge the ways we often reduce suffering and distress to individual questions of functioning, resilience, and exploitability. I am COVID conscious.

Hi. My name is Kate Pauley and I work with individuals, couples, and families. It is my greatest joy to see clients experiencing warmth, love, and bliss in their relationships. This may sound unattainable right now, and that is okay. I will work together with you from exactly where you are right now to get you to where you want to be. Because I offer affordable counseling, you do not need to wait until things are unbearable before starting. No matter where you are right now, I am here.

Are you going through an ordeal life never prepared you for? Is the way you’ve been doing things not leading to the future you want? Maybe everything in your life seems to be changing all at once, and it’s just too much to get through it all alone right now. You might have a romantic partner with a trauma or mental illness that’s taken a turn for the worse. Or maybe you just feel you're not quite fulfilling all you're meant to be. This may have you feeling stressed out, depressed, anxious, traumatized, or just plain over your limit. I help people get through moments like this and get back on their path.

I see the therapeutic process as a relationship between you and I where we begin to explore one's patterns, relationships, strengths, and challenges. In such exploration, one can find a deeper understanding of him/herself in order to move forward with a happy and productive life. My role is a partner, guide, and witness to your journey of becoming a more fulfilled you. I believe everyone is doing their best to survive and find happiness in their lives. Sometimes, our efforts can lead to maladaptive patterns. Therapy helps illuminate these patterns and guide you to develop new ones.

You might feel overwhelmed, but you've made it this far. When things aren't working, you don't have to figure it out alone. As your therapist, I'll help you work towards the life you want, based on your specific situation and needs. Everyone deserves a safe, objective space to process their emotions and experiences. I encourage seeking and allowing compassion for oneself, and appreciate you taking the first step in that process. My work is focused on creating the relationship in which feelings can be shared fluidly, where the space that we have created together fosters the communication and honesty that will be our foundation.

Are you looking to confront deep questions about yourself? Your existence? Do you often ask what you are supposed to be doing in this rapidly changing world? When we don't have the answers sometimes this shows up as anxiety, depression, disconnection from loved ones, procrastination, perfectionism, or grief. We know we want to know ourselves, to lead a connected and meaningful life aligned with our values and aspirations. But sometimes we need help in crafting it. Sometimes we need help pulling out/re-discovering our internal desires that are hidden behind our defense mechanisms and coping skills.

How can I find a therapist in Denver?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
