In my journey as a cognitive behavioral therapist, I have witnessed the transformative power of empathy, understanding, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions. My approach is rooted in fostering a safe and collaborative therapeutic alliance where clients can explore their challenges, uncover the roots of their struggles, and develop practical strategies for positive change.

Most of my clients are men (20's-40's) who are intelligent, self-reflective, and successful, but who still somehow feel that something’s missing, or that they haven’t "grown up" in some key way. They are often experiencing some combination of anxiety, shame, low self-esteem, career issues, or relationship problems. I try to create a non-judgmental space for them to feel seen, heard and understood. It’s important for men to share their struggles, fears and shames with other caring and supportive men. This goes against a lot of our cultural conditioning but it helps us to feel that we’re not alone and that we’re actually okay.

You’re the Black Sheep of the family, who doesn’t fit in anywhere and struggles with loneliness: The Outsider. You are talented and intelligent with ambitious business and/or creative dreams; but due to procrastination fueled by self-sabotage and addictions (e.g., cannabis, pornography, video games), you continually fail to achieve goals. You negatively compare yourself to others, can't forgive yourself for mistakes, feel like a failure, and wish you had the confidence to fulfill your true potential because you are meant for more than the mediocrity that most people settle for. Welcome, it's time to awaken the warrior within!

I believe that we are ALL survivors of trauma. When we go through a traumatic experience, whether it's small or big, a part of us remains stuck in the experience. We hold onto unintegrated emotions and negative beliefs about ourselves. As a result, we tend to attract and get triggered by situations that remind us of these difficult experiences - until we are able to heal. Through various techniques, most notably EMDR, we can work with these unintegrated parts of the self to desensitize and reprocess these experiences and memories. The client can be freed of these patterns and stories and achieve their therapeutic goals.

Sometimes in life, we need a mentor, advocate or a careful, accepting and non-judgmental, yet skilled, listener for our thought and emotion processes. My intention as a therapist is to be there for you with a compassionate presence, contributing my expertise to help you access your needs, self-understanding and inner wisdom. Where unconscious behaviours and unsuccessful life patterns impede access to fulfillment and happiness in life, I offer skills development for self-care, self-discovery and self-mastery. I welcome clients who experience emotional distress due to trauma, loss, anxiety, panic, low self-esteem, depression and relationship problems, providing skilled guidance and support.

I often work with anxiety, depression and issues with life transitions.
I believe we are all capable of improving our lives but many of us become "stuck" in the process due to self doubt, insecurity, lack of self esteem, past and/or present trauma, losses, etc. My approach is to work together to find the most appropriate solutions for these issues, or find comfort and acceptance with the challenges of life. With broader perspectives, or an alternative life choice, we increase our general well-being. I believe in practical solutions and appropriate perspectives, allowing all of us a better sense of comfort and competency in everyday life.

Simply feeling stuck or unfulfilled? Looking to explore ways to cope with a current life transition? I believe the key to building the life you desire and deserve is to be open and curious.

I treat issues of mood and anxiety as well as more complex issues involving substance use and abuse and trauma. I also have special expertise and interest in personal goal-setting; cannabis (marijuana) dependence; and creative, gifted, and/or talented youth and adults with mood, underachievement, or multipotentiality issues. I work from a harm-reduction perspective and use a holistic lens to address problems. Using a mix of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and a systems perspective, I assess and address sleep hygiene, daily habits, personal relationships, and coping skills, and incorporate mindfulness and exercise into all treatment planning.
