Being a human in this world is fucking HARD. From the many pressures and stressors of surviving under capitalism, living with the impacts of traumatic experiences and systemic oppression, balancing social and familial expectations and norms with your own needs and hopes, and navigating identity and relationships; all of these things exert significant pressures on our bodies and minds. If you are struggling, you are not alone. I know that being asked to "think more positively" about painful experiences isn't helpful for many and can be profoundly invalidating so I won't do that! What I will do is provide a space to process your pain.

Do you suffer from overwhelming emotions, depression, or anxiety? Are you feeling adrift or disconnected in your relationships? I bring an open curiosity to your experiences – whatever those may be – and, working together, we can uncover and navigate the internal and external obstacles you face. My goal as your therapist is to create a genuine, empathetic relationship between you and I, through which healing and change can take place. I also see individuals as embedded in broader social contexts that shape how we think, feel, and behave, and which may be implicated in psychological and interpersonal problems.

If you are struggling with your mental health, you may be feeling lonely, afraid, or misunderstood. It might feel like no one can relate to you, and it might feel like no one knows how to help. Anxiety and depression are incredibly isolating mood disorders, and they can leave you feeling alone in the world. If you have felt this way before then you may need someone who can provide you with unconditional care and support. We all need help at some point in our lives, and seeking guidance for your mental health is one of the bravest and strongest things a person can do.

My approach is supportive, compassionate, strength-based, and client-centred. The course of therapy will unfold differently for every client. It will depend on you and your needs. Together we will work in a safe, genuine, and supportive environment, to begin to find solutions, navigate through challenges, and build the skills that will help you work through difficult obstacles and move towards positive change. My goal is to help clients get unstuck and moving in the direction of a rich and meaningful life, by cultivating a different type of relationship with their thoughts and feelings.

My approach is client-centred, which means I don't have a "one size fits all" method to therapy. I have worked with people from all different walks of life. My goal is to provide you with a safe space to speak about whatever issues you need help with each session. My experience has primarily been working with individual adults of all ages, however I have also done some assessment work with children and adolescents.

There are times in our lives when we can't see the wood for the trees and it seems as though we are falling backwards into the same hole. I believe that through the process of therapy we can uncover our strengths and find our way forward. I believe that we can grow and change by challenging our way of seeing ourselves, others and the world. I believe that changing these perceptions will help us feel better about ourselves and help us operate more effectively. My strength is in the way in which I work, which is both collaborative and creative.

Growing up in a culture that makes it hard to open up about struggles at the risk of being judged, especially as a man, I understand that a lot of people can dismiss the ways in which therapy can empower us to take control of and find new meaning in our lives. At the same time, I have also seen many people become dependent on therapy, and reliant on “experts” to tell them how to live. My success as a healer depends on helping you achieve your goals in the fastest time possible so you don’t waste your time and money. “Fire” me ASAP.

Reality can bite, hard. I believe people can learn to bite back - and learn to be nourished. The trouble is, we can develop patterns of relating and being in the world where we remain stuck, no matter how hard we try. With a lifetime of accumulated armour and coping strategies, some having become sources of stress rather than relief, we can come to feel alienated, alone with difficulties, without a sense of hope for something better. Coming out of conditioned isolation and into fruitful contact with others and the world can be tremendously uncomfortable and profoundly liberating. Therapy is one tool to help with that process.

How can I find a therapist in Chinatown, Toronto?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $300 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
